Best info on STV history is on that page. Best info on how to rig one is right here on Scream and Fly!

The best years are Triad,
Then Summerford.
Then Misssissippi.

Look for cracks on the sides of the centerpad.
98% of STV have the standard layup, there are very very few special boats.
Look for transom issues.
Set up, look to STV owners. Though the setup depends on what deck, what bottom, what power, the weight and what you want to do.

This is true... mine was a kevlar layup and it still had a rotted transom with a few bad stringers. The cost to have the transom replaced with new floor and stringers was almost the cost of the hull by itself. I would highly recommend having one checked out by survey or for moisture by a professional before spending a dime. I found out the hard way. You can see pics of my transom replacement on my FOR SALE AD here: http://forums.screamandfly.com/forums/showthread.php?t=104555

As for set up... there is a wealth of info on this site. Testing is the best method with a good set of gauges and a GPS. Depending upon use, props will vary too. I started out with a Merc ET drag wheel but eventually fell in love with a cleaver... you gotta love that top end!! If you get some good power and a bolt up a 22 yammy, hold on!!! You will think the Space Shuttle just launched with you on a tow rope! Then, just try out a 32 cleaver and set it level to fly!!

All mod-vp and ski bottom STV's have a layer of kevlar.
Some have double kevlar.. and option on Summerford and Triad, standard on Mississippi.
Some although really rare are tripple kevlar, and the ultra rare are the full kevlar boats...... of which there are 2.

Here is what I am looking for. Older model (save money) clean very clean. perferably four seater. With or without motor . Looking for something to play with and get high speed #s 100+++++ where i don't with my bass boat. Don't know if you guys remembr but a cople months ago there was a yellow one that sold here on the board. I think it was late 80s might have been 89 or 90 model. Yellow and white no motor and was sold for less than 5k

for all practical purposes you want a 91 or newer. remember that a 91 is 15 years old.
In late 89-90 the bottom changed from the sprint bottom to the ski, then in 92-3 the mod-vp bottom or roundy round bottom came out.

I know one thing I would not want a full kevlar boat, Wally told me that they are not that much lighter and are too brittle. IF I could have another rocket made I would get Wally to use reichold hydrex 100 that I have left over form my glider days. That stuff is light and stronger than AME 5000.

Stumpy, Kevlar is anything but brittal. Carbon is brittle. You know that boat that you always look at the transom of......KEVLAR
The boats are made from Vectorply KE-BXM 1208, which is a Aramid/e-glass hybrid.
Yes the resin is Hydrex, only on the later Triads ( I think ).

See you at the shop.

Oh and Kevlar is not lighter, but the material itself doesn't absorbe resin, hense the lighter layup. On an STV that is about 25lbs a layer......3 extra layers equals 75lbs

Darn it.... I wanted a special STV..... ;)

Wally told me it was really special - maybe not one out of two special, but still pretty special..... ;)

I guess any STV is pretty special out here in Bayliner country.

Looks good.
The V-21 is a fast boat.

DMA, your Euro is special. It is a double kevlar okume wood layup, not so say what has been done to the bottom.

pictures of the triad on e-bay wouldn't come up on my computer but if the boat is nice the seller was probably thinking in the neighborhood of $15,000.
