i know of 2 nice 23 cougar mtr's for sale and i wanted some info on them by anyone who has owned one , or been in one

one has a pair of 225 pro max's on it (owner claims it runs 100 mph)

the other has a pair 300x's on it (owner claims it runs 110 mph)

how good are they in the chop ?

would this be a good boat for the great south bay ?

does anyone know if it is easy to insure with the 300's ? and if so who can i get insurnce with ?

any feedback would be appreciated

thanks in advance

i have a 23' mtr rigged with 260's have had a best top speed in the 110 area(by gaffrig speedo) turning 30" re3 mazco's. as far as running in chop(up to 1 foot) you can run it as fast as you want and it will handle it just fine. boat is very forgiving, turns on a dime, and settles out after a high speed chop the throttle run very quickly. ran it the scream and fly georgia-south carolina rally last year in **** that was probably 4-5 footers and as long as you got brains it will handle that fine also(wouldnt run it a hundred in that stuff!)

as far as insurance , cost about 500 a year to insure it($300,000 policy) but all my stuff is insured at the same company so i get a multiline discount.by the way i use nationwide insurance. ive never had a boat claim but when **** breaks i dont turn it in either i just fix it as to keep my insurance rates low. all in all its a great boat thats is solidly built and as long as you dont abuse it real bad will last forever! also i normally run my props turning in as ive found on good water it runs faster and out in really rough stuff as ive found it handles better. also the round eared re3's have consistently faster than any cleaver ive ever ran on this boat. good luck! mt

Better check insurance first. Many companies are no longer writing cats and the ones that are are getting an arm and a leg. We were one of the few sneaking by at Statefarm at $675.00/yr in our Eliminator. Then they non-renewed us. Now we're at 4 times that and cannot find anyone else. 10 yrs cat experience, no claims, house, cars, umbrella, etc.

We had a 23' MTR w/ a 500 and loved it. It was a fine hull, just a little short on speed with the sterndrive.

Also..................don't just get a quote and buy it. Almost everybody will quote it and then want a picture after you buy it. Then you get shot down and are stuck with an uninsurable ride. Make sure the agent, underwriter and you are all on the same page. Been here, done this many times.

Good luck!
