I have seen many pictures of motors in this site with various types of cowl vents on them. Is there any performance advantage to be had on a basicly stock V220 XRI Laser. Or is this unnecessary without major modifications. I'm new to the game and tryin to learn, Thanks.

If your motor is stock there should be enough air flow built into the design of the cowling from the factory. The aftermarket vents are for modified motors that require more air. Some say they help in keeping the heat down from inside the cowling but I can't see where that is a big problem to start with.

The problem with heat, or hot air inside the cowl is that it heats the intake charge. Cooler air will always make more power................ whether the increase is detectable may be a different story, but many smart car guys have said that fresh air packages (often wrongly described as ram air) add 10 percent over similar setups that have to use underhood heated air.

Would putting vents in the back of the cowl cause water to get on the plugs and other parts if u suddenly had to reduce speed causing a "backwash" effect on a ass heavy boat that sits low in the water?

I have them on back of my Cowl and have never had electrical problems, and my boat is low when sitting still.

The vents in my Cowl are L&S I think and they sit approx 3 to 4" above the bottom of the cowl

My problem is the upper exh ports flood out if I dont trim up the motor but thats a Xflow problem..

I like the look even if they dont improve HP

SRP71, Until about a month ago the water outlook was bleak but since then we are now back to normal. In fact it is raining/snowing right now!
