Can anyone give advice ??? What is best Jet Pump for top end ???
There are alot of Pump Types, what is best ???
I have old Berkeley 12JB with E Impeller and Place Diverter.
Is it all about water flow, smooth surface, number of bowl vaines etc ???
Am I better off throughing this pump away and getting something newer and more efficient ??? Or can I rework this pump and get the same performance out it as a up to date one ???
Thanks any help is great.

A berkeley pump is one of the best out there, been around a long time. Rework what you have with updated parts. Are you sure it has an E impeller? Not sure if that is right...maybe you have a JE pump with B impeller? Hope that helps,

I was under the impression that dominater was the best, but now I hear American turbine is the best.Who knows,I think it comes down to the performance of your motor and how eficeintly your pump works.
Just throwing this out there,I dont know for sure.
Have you tryed Hotboats.com,I think they can help you more so than this sight. This is a great sight for outboards!
Take care

ya it is E impeller,I swapped it from an A...
The Turbine Engine in boat can't have too much Torque on gear box, like V8,had to go to E. Might try C to push limits...
You might be right on Pump, tag kind of hard to read.
Thanks for info. Matt

Not trying to push you away from this sight, but I have responded to several jetboat threads and never got any response.
Try the other sight and you should get really good advice.;)
Take care

There are several main pumps that are very similar and some of the parts are even interchangable.
Berkely, American turbine, Dominator, Legend, and Aggressor are the similar ones.
Any of the above can be made to work real well.
I prefer the Dominator pump because it has a shouldered wear ring on the front edge and a flange on the back edge of the impeller that fits into the bowl. Also it has a water lubed bowl bearing rather than a oil lubed.
If your boat has an E type Berkely pump that would be real undesirable.
You can tell if it's an E if the intake is molded into the hull.
I don't know a lot about your setup but each smaller cut of impeller looses more pump efficiency. There's a lot of slip to an E impeller.

It is 12JB pump it had an A imp,but it was pegging the Torque Guage,so I went to a E to reduce the torque.I'm not sure what you mean by,E pump being molded into hull ??? Check out set up at; http://turbinejetboat.com/
Thanks Matt

why did you go from an a to an E??? i hope you went in steps??? did you try a b,c,d first??
415 ft lbs of touque at 6K rpm pump speed i would use a B impeller if it were me...

Berkley pump is a great unit.
Balance the pump, get a sealing ring put in.
A modified pickup grate.

i happen to know another guy named henry morris in delaware who runs a turbine in a daytona 19ft and has to run either a C or what you have as that turbine wont pull the bigger impellers. The e pump was more like an "assembly line pump" it was a quick install as the mold had a plug template they used and when you popped the boat out of the mold all you had to do was drill the holes and place the pump in that area with epoxy putty and it was a done deal. The other style "conventional pumps" like the JB,JC, JG you need to cut the keel out to accept the actual intake and was a little more involved and preferred by the custom jetboat builders who wanted more of quality than quantity.

Simalar setup as henry's turbine, they can't run big A impellers too much for the gear box. It is JB pump...I think I going to go to C...
Whats the deal with bowl vaines,is more better?
And do those loaders/inducer, help?
Thanks Matt

No bowl vanes dont matter since your going to have to run a smaller impeller. The bowl you have will work just fine for now. Just make sure they are clean from dings and such with a 1/32 radius and not SHARP. A good loader will definately help....inducer not at this time. You should also look into the add a shoe kit. It's a bolt on deal that will help in tuning if you want to save some $$ and not pull the intake to have it machined.
hope that helps, Ted

hi matt!
not razor sharp, blunt sharp like an airplane wing. Scratch what i said about the E pump...that got stuck in my head when you said E impeller(man that has to be small. lol) The add a shoe kits are about $225.00 and are a bolt on deal. I would get a good loader in the boat first and go from there. One step at a time. Sorry for the late reply
hope that helps, Ted

How much money ya got???
Outlaw/Eagle makes a rather sick billet pump housing and 2 pc bowl if you REALLY want something bulletproof
Be prepared to spend some cash tho they ain't cheap!
