A new attitude for NASCAR's Jeff Gordon?

Expect to see a more aggressive approach this season

Jeff Gordon, the new NASCAR bad boy?
Immediately after Sunday's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, Gordon climbed from his car after falling from third to 21st when he was spun on the final lap by Matt Kenseth - only to find Kenseth walking toward him.
Kenseth said he was coming to apologize, but he never got the chance.
Gordon, still wearing his helmet and head-and-neck support, met Kenseth with a two-handed shove that drew a $10,000 fine and has him on NASCAR probation until Aug. 30.
Gordon said he and Kenseth talked in the NASCAR hauler after the incident and he doesn't expect any animosity to linger into this weekend's DirecTV 500 at Martinsville Speedway.
But Gordon, a four-time Cup Series champion who won both Martinsville races last year and has won four of the past six races at this track, also suggested that fans who might have been surprised by how he drove and reacted last weekend should know he's not the same guy he might have once been.
"For years, I was just so concerned with, 'OK, what was this person going to think and what was that person going to think,' " Gordon said. "I was more caught up in that than I was in being true to myself.
"What you see today is a truer Jeff Gordon and who I really am. I'm not a robot; I have a personality and I have emotions and I have a humorous side to me and an angry side to me."
I've got to be me
Gordon said when he began in NASCAR as a young driver coming from an open-wheel background in the Midwest, he felt he needed to go out of his way to win acceptance, with fans and his competitors.
"Now that I've established myself and I'm older and understand life a little bit more, the way for me to enjoy life and enjoy racing more is to be me," he said.
"If fans like that or don't like that is really not what I'm out here for. I love the fans and I want them to pull for me, but I only want them to pull for me if they find something about me that is something they like or something they respect or appreciate."
Before the late-race incident with Kenseth, Gordon had a run-in with Martin Truex Jr. that led to an incident in which Jeff Burton's car was among the collateral damage. Burton said Gordon is among the drivers who think it's OK for them to do something, but not OK for someone else to do the same thing to them.
"He (Gordon) made a conscious decision to wreck the No. 1 car (Truex), and I got wrecked because of it," Burton said. "I don't drive like that, and I don't want him driving me like that. There are a lot of people here who only think about themselves."

It's called being aggressive
Gordon, who's seventh in the Nextel Cup standings, said he understands why Burton would be upset. But after missing the Chase for the Nextel Cup last year, Gordon said he heard some critics say one reason he didn't make the championship playoff cut might have been because he was not aggressive enough.
"Looking at last year and what, as a driver, I could have done different or better at times to get us into the Chase or be in position to win more races, I felt like there were some times when I could have been a little bit more aggressive," Gordon said.
"We've seen a lot of these young guys come into the sport and be more aggressive, and I think you can learn something from that."
Whatever the right formula is for Martinsville, Gordon and his Hendrick Motorsports team certainly seem to have it. "Obviously we like Martinsville, and Martinsville seems to like us," said Gordon, who has seven career wins at the track. "Martinsville is a great opportunity for us to run good and maybe get back some of those points we lost at Bristol. I definitely am not coming in with enemies, and certainly throughout the race, I will not be trying to make any."

Lets see right after he won his last Championship and was second to Dale JR in popularity he had his hair cut like Jr's.
Now he's not even close to Jr or Tony Stewart in popularity.

So now he wants to be a bad ass like Tony!

Rainbow boy, is going to get his ass kicked! And I hope it's soon!

Al, the one thing ol'Jeffy Boy should consider when asking NASCAR for "next years favors" is get him a new "tokan" girlfriend that isn't 4" taller than him. He "married" the last token and she beat him up and took all his "toys"--yhat/plane/beach house/pool boy/yard man/etc. Seems like that's the least they could do for their "golden boy"! Afetr all the new is just about worn off of Jimmy Johnson! :D

all through life haven't we just givin into those whinney people just to shut them up so they will stop whinning ? And then they think there the one that did it all by them self .. and they may not be the one cheating to look good but they get someone else to do it for them if they dont get cought (look at me ) if they do ( It must have been a mistake he would never do anything like that..he should just come out and say he's gay he would get a whole new fan base as the only gay driver out there..as for dale j.r.s popularity there are alot of us who had no one else to cheer for after daytona 2001.. so we looked for some one honest to racing and Dale just happened to be there and he's an Earnhardt . Dont get me wrong I do cheer on other drivers now. Dale Jarrett,Mark Martin,Greg Biffle, even cheer on crashum up Labontie if they are racing good but certain drivers have not earned my respect and some are regaining my respect such as Tony Stewart mr hot head himself so that is my opinion and there has only been one great driver and he won the man of the year award ???? who?? Fireball Roberts ...

So true, Tom. When their hero( Dale Jr.) can't drive as good as Gordon, they get very upset. Next thread will be about Tony or Jimmy, and how they suck because they are better then Jr!!!!!;) :D Also Gordon is a stock car driver, IROC means nothing. It is Nascar Championships that means the world to these guys, unfortunately you guys won't see Jr winning one anytime soon if ever!!!!! :p Chuck

I keep wanting to reply, but everytime I start to I think, they're all a bunch of underweight sissies. Mark Martin works out you know, and Michael Waltrip punched someone the the window, someone once threw a helmet at another car, oh yeah, and someone else once threw elbow pads or foot pads or maxipads, whatever kind of pads those sissies wear. The whole things gay. I also heard lightdays will be sponsering a ford next year. It will go well with the Phil/Oprah toyota.

And the most money buys the most championships. If they were all single car owners with set budgets like the spending caps set for the NFL jeffyPOO wouldn't be no better than jeff green.
I'm ashamed to say I liked him at one time. WHAT A FRIGGIN WINEY AZZ SISSY. HE CAN DISH OUT BUMP-N-CRASHIN OTHER DRIVERS BUT HE CAN'T TAKE GETTIN BUMPED.
