Someone a while back had asked about how to ship a powerhead safely. After a few too many "problems" in shipping before, I built this crate to better house the powerhead during shipment. To date, it's been acros the country a few times, loaned out a couple more times, and right now headed to JSRE once again......it's a little more abuse each trip, but have not had a single problem yet.

The crate is sized for a 2.5 motor less the horn. Bolts up in just a few minutes after the PH is bolted down thru the base. I added some alum plate under the bottom of the base in order to give the nuts on the short studs, something to pull against. I removed the 4 long studs from the bottom of the block. It's pretty sturdy...

In these pictures, I did not send the heads, so used my alum plates to cover the cyl holes and exhaust chest...saves a little weight.

As pictured, this 2.5 PH and crate weighs 165 lbs. I usually stuff some foam in around the PH to fill some of the gaps , offering a little better protection.

Shoulda just put it in a cardboard box and filled it with newspaper like the moron I bought a set of heads from. Guess what kind of shape they were in when they arrived. I almost bought a crank from that asshat too. I wonder how he would have packaged it? Nice job, maybe the idiot who shipped the heads will see this and figure out how things are supposed to be done! Like pyro's prop shipping thread, this one needs a sticky to keep it up top.

Know what ya mean jphii.... I too have recieved such 'surprises'.....props sticking outta tha' side of boxes, even got a exhaust divider plate once just wrapped in a brown paperbag and taped up.....which really sucked cuz the gold alodine coating was visably perfect before it got shipped, you could tell all the scuffs and scratches were brand new and very recent when it got to me...Rb

Thank you for posting that.
That crate deserves a Corona for sure.
My prop crating thread never got pinned, I just delete the last ttt post and re-post it every week to keep it near the top. :D
