Cut Off Switch HELP..

I have a 1997 Merc EFI 250 that won't fire up and I suspect it maybe the cut off switch (lanyard line). How can I properly check it? :confused:
The cut off has 3 wires in back- a black, a yellow w/black stripe and a black with yellow stripe.

Any help appreciated.

So if i cut off the wires to the lanyard switch then the circuit should close and I should be able to start, IF that is the problem.? let's hope

No, it will open...U ground to kill a merc...the yeller/black wire iz the kill wire...Ground to kill!!
