Can you tell how well the boat is setup from a distance by the form of the water/ rooster - if any?
Should there be a rooster if your looking for fast pull up out of the hole/water?

I've got a small AVI file but can't seem to work out how to change the format...

On as outboard application, as you lift your motor, your bow should be lifting always keeping the top of the motor level or parallel with the water (to some extent) therefore, if your lifting your motor and just creating a rooster tail, your probably not picking up speed. This was always my feeling. Is this correct?

Rooster tail is caused by a combination of Prop slip and motor height. If you motors are surfacing you will always have some small rooster tail. At slow speeds I have a rooster tail, it gets a lot bigger when I nail the throttles. Once the props start to hook up it goes down almost flat. Of course over triming the hell out of the boat will also cause a rooster tail, once again prop slip at its best.
here is 143.6 mph... bit of a rooster and a lot of haulin a**!!!!!

One rule of thumb I heard was that the rooster tail should not be higher than the engine.

a GOOD ROOSTER TAIL (NOT A SHOWING OFF ROOSTER TAIL )
SHOULD BE NO HIGHER THAN THE BOAT
AND TWICE AS LONG AS THE BOAT.
:D But the tall ones sure do look cool:D

Here's a quick link to the last 1/4 i ran yesterday... the trim was fairly high to start hence the bouncy bouncy...

fish, you posted this link earlier http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...layable%3Atrue
if you pause the video and look closely, you will see the trim on the engine is neutral. the roostertail that you see is, in reality, natural. that boat is set up near perfect, hence why it goes 140 something miles per hour.

Actually Micheal Dixon went over 151.... rooster tail that is LONG and low is a very efficient application of power.. the rooster tail is then being caused by the propeller re entering the water and not thrust pushing UP to the sky.. if you need more than 2-3* possitive trim then there is adjustments that could be made to improve the setup.. it isnt necessicarly a bad thing having a rooster tail, as long as it is a flat low and long rooster, if it is TALL short and more than a mist your wasting your froward thrust pushing water up..

fricking showoff's... they could be so much faster if they could only get their boats set up right:p

Three point hydros don't operate like a tunnel and the rooster is a totally different deal as the prop and boat are designed to hold the back of the boat up and the prop runs half out of the water, causing the big rooster.

INBOARD angled shaft boats are a totally different ball game than outboards..

This rooster tail is too high. That's why these boats are too high

the original question did not say outboard, "just mainly used for Drag."
