So I guess with a SBC383 stroker, dart heads, w375hp/350 cam, holley 750 on a RPM intake and Volvo 280 outdrive with 14.5x21 prop 52-55 is good?

You should run just fine with your set-up.Your boat will outrun mine.I found that my boat is slower than my old alpha1 setup by 7 mph.

So your boat was converted from an Alpha1 drive to a jet? My HIN starts with ENP does yours. I was told this boat was the last one sold by Kona (a Houston based company) and was the boat show boat for 2-3 yrs. before it was sold to the original owner that I purchased it from. The original drive setup was a Volvo AQ290A which was a L82 Corvette motor with 280sp drive. From what the owner told me it was the only one setup with an I/O to his knowledge. I have had it for 10 yrs. and am in the process of restoring the interior. I need to paint it but am not sure if I want to go with a totally wild scheme or back White and yelow w brown sparkle stripe original. Can you post some pics of your boat as well?

Oh...... By the way my title says 21' but it is really 21' 8" does that mean it is a 22' boat. The guy told me it was registered that way because back then a boat over 21' was a different bracket and would have cost much more in taxes..... I think that is what he told me....

The Kona I have now came with the jetdrive. The other one I cut it into small peices and threw it in my dumptruck. The transome rotted out and I tryed to fix it myself, needless to say I failed.I have not had the outdrive model in 6 years.Just got the jetdrive model 2 years ago.
My HIN number starts with MBK and says 22ft on the title.
I will try to post a few pics of mine.(I use my neighbor to do this for me)

Hey there, my first post on this forum and this thread stood out as I have a '73 21' Kona, although a different hull than yours.
My boat is an older style hull and I doubt would have the same bottom as yours so I wouldn't be much help for feedback on performance. The other thing is I've yet to get mine wet anyway. I bought it back in Nov. and am in the process of doing a minor restoration before taking her out. My buddy has a 21' Charger with the same hull as mine and it is a nice riding boat, but feels a bit heavy and isn't the fastest thing on water by any means. I don't know if they have the same layup or not so don't know if mine may feel even heavier, not sure. Either way, I'm not bothered, I love the shape of my hull and just want something to putt around in.
You might want to check out the forum on hotboat.com and look up Konabud over there. His is a jet, but he has the same hull as yours and could give you some more feedback on it's performance.
I don't know about the later years, maybe they were made in Houston, but I know my Kona was made in Westminster, Ca. at a location on Hazzard St. It's tough to find much info on the Kona's, but there's a little bit 'out there'.

I have a 73 Kona Daycruiser as well, I have a 455 oldsmobile that is not done up by any means, goes to a berkeley. I can get around 45mph according to my GPS. but it is old and may not work well.
Actually just made the decision to sell it. Put an add on craigslist and have one guy hounding me down. I put $2800 OBO in the add, and the way he is acting, is like it is some sort of steal. Is there something I don't know:o
By the way, I also have a buddy with a Charger too, looks identical. And yes, they do ride nice, it's a great boat. Think we are more geared towards a pontoon these days.
Oh, believe my boat was made in CA too

21 Kona, I'd love to see you repaint the hull in the factory and era correct color scheme. There is something really great about retro that can't be beat, in my opinion...
