What is this wire for? Where does it plug into?
It comes from somewhere near the trim/tilt cylinder.

What about this wire coming off the trim pump?

Where do you hook the Tachometer wire to?

First picture wire goes to a send for a trim gauge. second picture wires are for a trim limit switch. third hook the tach up to the rectifier with a yellow wire on it's post. should be a gray wire in the wire harness for the tach. Greg

From the picture the wiring looks like the trim limit system. The gray wire on the rectifier is the tach wire.

Thanks for your help. Couple of questions still. Do i need a trim limit switch? Do i already have one? Where is the rectifier?
Please excuse my ignorance.

Sorry Greg you were posting the same time I was.

No you don't need a trim limit switch it is for the controll box's that have a trailer button. More of a mercruiser left over thing than anything useful. The retifier is the square thing next to the starter with three posts on it. There should be a gray wire hooked up to it and 2 yellows then there will be a red wire on the positive post. The gray wire is the tach wire.

Phastboat,
What's the deal with your horn? It looks as though it's been welded back on?

Some of the old vertical intake valve horns were two piece and welded from the factory.

with the gray wire already hooked up in the harness the tach should hook up to the control box. unless you have remote key switch in dash and control box replaced with aftermarket shifter. plug in should still be there thou. under dash

The wire you are looking at is the trim gauge sender ..it is a resistance type of thing that connect to the electric trim gauge. If you hook up an ohmmeter and trim your motor in and out you will see the resistance change.Good luck
