I'm planning to meet Wildman in Atlanta in April and visit relatives in Tenn. and want to run my new ride in Kentucky Lake around Danville. I know it's a man made and wonder it's depths does anyone have experience in the area?
Thanks

Plenty of good water, but you have to be careful of the many shallow areas. It can get very rough when it is windy.

I have been told by many of the guys who fish kentucky that it get shallow gradually and is well marked. I am usually on the eastern side whats called barkley and that is freegin deadly. If you get a bunch of people let me know, Paris Landing isnt that far away for me would love to do some boating if I ever get mine going.

Keep an eye on the water level(1-800-238-2264) then 1 and listen for the ramp your lookin for, if the level is around 359.5 you will have Lots of safe runnin, if it is anywhere near 354.5 Stay between the bouys! you can get the map you need from Alantic mapping(770-426-5768)---North Map Kentucky dam to mile 82 has Danville on it.

Beat I work for an outdoor sporting goods dealer in Jackson, TN (About an hour from the area you are asking about, I fish it quite a bit) and we have most maps of the TN River from Wilson Dam (AL) too KY Dam. Drop me a line and I'll be glad to send you a map. Like Ray said, the area is fine in the buoys and well marked as it is a major barge transportation area. But get out of them (especially this time of year, TVA hasn't started letting the lake rise, it is shallower now than in a long time!) and you can loose a gearcase/prop in a blink. Almost every cove/bay in that part of the lake has ledges in the mouth that are very shallow and you better know where they channel in is.

KY Lake is notorious for having humps/submerged islands that are only 6" below the surface but they may be 1/2 mile or more offshore in what looks like clear water. Most main channels and boating lanes are marked, especially those around marinas. If you are putting in at the marina at Danville you will want to run across the cove and closer too the railroad bed side of the cove and just follow it out too the channel. Once in the channel you can letter eat too your hearts content. Probably 60 miles west too KY Dam and over 100 south too Pickwick dam. And Ray was right, from Danville too KY Dam is some of the most treacherous freshwater this side of the Great Lakes if the wind is up. The WORST conditions is a stout (over 20) NW wind blowing down the lake against a strong current (the TN flows south too north) if the TVA is generating. The rollers can get 30'+ between crest too crest and they will EAT a small boat like breakfast.

Good luck and lemme know,
RA

Rough lake with hazzards.....I'd drive right past it and go other places rather than go on it.

Land between the lakes passage will beat you to death.

I live 2 min away from the cumberland/barkley and have tried so hard to find some good deep boating and have gotten no where, especially when the lake is semi drained. I use the river a lot becuase of this, and have a couple of coves/bays that I have bored my wife with by trolling around inside with my depth finder looking for shollow spots. Those map sites where good guys thank you, MAN MADE LAKES SUCK!! LOL but its wet and its all i got

I saw Randy pulling it down the road this past week during bike week and it is a sweet looking boat. If it is the same one.

The lake gets rough in a hurry, i have a 21 ft Obsession it is close to your boat. A thunder storm kicked up some 30 plus waves on the main lake we were jumping them like we were on a waverunner no fun, snapped my brothers boat right under there feet, about a 28" crack in the hull.
