Does someone know the dry weight on the Varmint. (Bass boat) We have an 1980 varmint here that is in mint condition. My Dad is gonna run it in Augusta this year with a 2.4, maybe 2.5 carb. I was just curious what the weight on the boat was. We still have to set it up.
Many thanks,
Michael

Yeah, He's been itching to race something for a while. He and Ed are representing the old school I guess. Even though Ed's boat is of the modern era. I hope we can get the 3 boats in 3 different classes this year. I guess it will give us a better chance with the 3 of us running. It's going to be interesting as well as a lot of fun..............

Well, I'm thinking about it. Being an old tree trimmer myself!

Well you won't know if you can still trim them if you don't try. This time the trees float...........

Some were lighter than others. We have a '77 Varmint that's 780 lbs. bare.

That seems to be the story of all hydrostreams, they all differ in weight.

My brothers Varmint with two seats, carpet, the steering unit ,hot foot and controls,no motor,no trolling motor or any gear weighs 695lbs.But that seems to be lighter than most Varmints. His previous Varmint with the same rigging weighed a little over 750lbs. Don't know why his is so light. It was a one owner boat when he got it and supposidly has never had anything done to it. Weighed it on two different scales and it was within 10lbs of each other.

Yeah, I guess the only way to find out for sure is to weight it.
Thaks for the replies,
Michael

Here's a few pics of it. We are still rigging it. It's a bit colorful. Boat looks brand new almost. Original finish and carpet from 1980.

that yellow mid is a bit out of place haha
All original boat... not wanting to be negative but don't people usually go through them and re-do the core etc to make sure it was done right, especially if its going to be raced? I mean it looks like it has been undercover in a barn its whole life, just wondering...

If it's like the two my brother has it will haul ass,but watch out when you let out of the gas. They don't seem to handle the counter torque that the motor produces very well. First time I drove his,I wrapped it up pretty good and then trimmed it back down some to cruise at around 60.A boat came out of a side channel right across my path and I had to get out of the throttle fast.Boy what a ride!Scared the crap out of me.The ass end jumped sideways pretty hard and I thought I was going to loose it.The lighter of the two he has does it the worst. He has tried everything ,solid mounts, different motor heights, different props, torque tab and has had 3 different motors on the light one and the bigger they are and more torque they produce, the worse it is.My Vector has never acted that way.He has never ran a short mid,I wonder if that would make any difference though I don't see how.He has been told by other Varmint owners that it's just a characteristic of that boat.Kinda freaky.I would hate to be trimmed out all the way skint back and the motor suddenly quit! It could turn out very ugly.

Michael that's a nice Varmint, really like the Silverstreak color scheme too. It's very difficult to find these boats in good original condition. Keep it forever!

Hydroholic, we've used short and tall mids on the Varmint, other than looks, if there's a difference, it's not enough to notice.

He has run the boat plenty of times with a 20 mid on it. Had it set up to handle perfectly. We just swapped out the mids. The boat was a one owner boat from a local guy who has had it since 1980. It's always been kept in a garage with a cover on it. The good thing is we know the history on the boat, have known the owner for a long time. In fact Dad drove the boat back when it was new. I'll admit the mid does jump out at ya!!.

Was it a older guy that owned it and used to drag bikes? If so I talked to him at Lowfalls one day for about a hour. He said he broke his neck racing and couldnt push it to the limits anymore. Man, what a small world!
He told me he wanted to trade it for a small fishing boat.

Blake,
Yep, The guy is Tommy Steadman, he used to run drag bikes for a long time and then had someone drive them for him. He and a buddy of his Brit Jones bought 2 Varmits in 1980 one was red and silver the other was blue and silver. Both had 200's on them. Tommy's motor got stole and he went with the 81' 225 to replace it. He had the boat untill last summer. Sold it to Dad and bought an aluminum fishing boat. Said the hydrostream was to much for him with him having neck surgery. Those 2 boats were set up identically and you could practically hold hands with the other driver while running 90 mph. I remember watching them run them when I was a kid. Very impressive. It is a small world................

Well, You would not have gone wrong in doing so. This thing looks new. Carpet has a little wear on it but the finish is still like new.
