View Full Version : Mercury Media X-Cursion Duck Key Photo Report
Scream And Fly
03-09-2006, 12:42 PM
You may have read here that I'm at Duck Key for Mercury's Media X-Cursion event. (http://forums.screamandfly.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102464) Today is boat test day, and we've been extremely busy with the boats and discussing the technology that makes them perform as impressive as they look. I'll post more details later, but here are a few photos that I just clicked off:
I also want to thank Mercury Marine (http://www.mercurymarine.com) and Mercury Racing (http://www.mercuryracing.com) for inviting us to this event, so that we could share these experiences with you all.
We ride again aboard the Donzi 38 with triple 300XS outboards. The more time I spend with these engines, the more impressed I am. Incredible power and performance. More on these later...

Boats coming, boats going - and the day is just beginning!

Awesome Nor-Tech 36 with twin 850 SCi sterndrives - I'm heading out on this boat as soon as I finish this post. :) It runs almost 140, and the exhaust is quiet enough that you can actually have a conversation in the boat!

2X 850 SCi Mercury Racing (http://www.mercuryracing.com) Sterndrive. Oh. Yeah.

Prototype Enertia propeller. We'll be discussing Mercury's new high-strength X7 stainless alloy in an upcoming feature. Mercury reports 3-4 times the durability of traditional stainless steel used in propellers. This technology will find its way into other Mercury propellers as well.

36 foot Yellow Fin powered by four 275 Verados using the new quad-engine Shadow Technology. 4 engines, two throttles! Again, Shadow Technology will be discussed in a forthcoming feature. It's truly impressive.

Hey all, I have a quick break here to post a few morfe images. I'll have many more when I get back to the Cape.
The Nor-Tech was (as expected) an unreal ride. Extremely fast (understatement) yet I was talking to people in the boat at over 100 mph. Mercury Racing's new exhaust system quiets those beasts down, but don't worry, they still sound plenty mean. This is something you have to not hear to believe.

Power, power, power! Pure performance-boater bliss.
http://img422.imageshack.us/img422/2359/0156ry.jpg
On to another impressive machine - the quad-Verado 275 powered Yellow Fin. She weighs in at over 14,000 pounds dry, and runs over 70 MPH. When the throttles are sent home from 40 MPH, you'll have a new understanding of what torque is. It's amazing. I'll try to get some video of just what I'm talking about up sometime soon.

Four engines, two throttles. That's Mercury's quad-engine Shadow Technology. We were playing around with this system and it rocks. Details very soon on this amazing setup.

LOL - can I get rainbow sprinkles? :D
He lives in FL and I don't, so he gets to cover all the nice sunny events.
I get Tanner Park and the Northeast, plus wherever else I can squeeze in - I'm hoping for a trip to GA and one out to the NW S&F rally.
See you in Palatka!

Yeah, the Verado can sure push a big barge around. And, as opposed to other 4-strokes that sound like over-worked car engines when you push the throttle, the Verado sounds like it enjoys delivering all that torque as well.

As far as more boats it will probably be the Memorial Day weekend, but not necessarly outboard performance boats, infact mostly runnabouts and tournament ski boats, but really a big party. The actual rally in September with be more mellow, but with many cool boats....
