So they decided to drop the revs on the 300xs by 800-900.. With the same gear ratio as my 2002 300x's this makes my boat ( 32 Skater) with a pair of new models on the back, around 8 mph slower! Whats the Go!! I've been waiting all year for these things to come out, and they mak:confused:  em slower?

Go to this address: http://www.mercurymarine.com/uploads/5040/1534/OptiMax_300XS_Press_Release.doc, and it says the revs are 6300. That's only a 600 RPM drop, you can probably go to 6500, now we're getting close. Sure looking forward to a test on this new monster!

torque.. torque.. speed will be less than 2 MPH different and only based on the added weight... just requires larger pitch props

I bought an offshore version with 1.62 gears for $17,050 U.S. The standard bracketed version is $1,300 less. Depending on your dealer, how many motors they buy from Merc, you could see pricing much higher; dealers need to make money somewhere, and I chose to pay for setup, accessories, some other support, but motor is close to cost.

I'm #6 on the production build list and they told me mine should be delivered in early June. I'm guessing there's other dealers and big names out there that will be taking delivery somewhat earlier, maybe April, May?, not sure.

um.... since when did the dealer need to make any more money than what merc already tallies into MSRP???? your price sounds like it is only slightly under MSRP and by no means anywhere NEAR cost... I would venture to guess it is atleast 15% or more over cost.. but probably closer to 20% over what merc acutally charges the bigger dealers..

I get 15% off at my local dealer and I KNOW that I get 30% off on parts express and in both cases they are still makin $$$ what makes ya think motors are any different

Winner of the grand award this year for a company with at least 1,000 workers, posted record sales of $2.28 billion in 2005, up 6% from the prior year. The gain was led by strong international sales and higher selling prices as a result of a shift toward more costly, less polluting outboard engines. Mercury said one-third of its sales are derived from its international business. The company has 7,000 employees worldwide.
