I think this would be a very nice complement to the Nikon D50. Its not cheap, but it's not too expensive and I think it would bring the distance shots up close, like a boat running toward you @ speed.

Hi Binger,

The following thread should be posted in the Digital Cameras and Photography Discussion (http://forums.screamandfly.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=55) forum. One of the moderators will most likely move it over there, so look for it there.

But given the topic, Greg (the admin) will most likely respond to this because he is the resident Nikon Guru.:)

1. if you already have a 200mm lens then adding a 2x or 1.4x multipler is one way $150 or less.

2. there are some xx-300 or xx-400mm zooms. these usually run $500 or less

3. sigma has a 50-500mm zoom for $850 thats great but nees lots of light.

4. for low cost go with #2 [you can also add the multipler but needs lots of light]

chech here as well http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1030

It all depends on what the intended use for the lens is. That, and your budget.

70-300 Nikkor (Nikon) Lens at Best Buy for about $180. cheap way to get long range zoom.

casey, how are you doing with the camera?

I bought a combo deal from Cord Camera.com for 800$. It came with:

70-300mm f/4-5.6G
17-55mm nikkor
1mb card
card reader
tri pod
bag
& extra battery.

Btw, I'd like to see more boating examples taken from the D50 if ya'll don't mind.

Kind regards,
Jamie

You guys have been an asset. Shopping is never easy when its something you're unfamiliar with. Looks like its going to be a good hobby though most of mine will be family & r/c boats.:)
