Here in PA all jetski owners must have the coarse, but others who take it get 10% off their boat insurance. Not sure if the jetski owners get the same break or not, or get surcharged.

N.Y. requires the safe boating course for PWC as well.
This same certificate will be a valid for boats once N.Y.S. adopts the mandatory requirement.
That is all.http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/3900/bash5ri.gif (http://imageshack.us)

"Capt. Bash" is taking the course this saturday in Massapequa.

Boating Safety Education Law FAQ's

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
Q. Does a current USCG license satisfy the education requirements?

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
A. Yes, it does. Anyone holding a USCG operators license is exempt from the education requirements.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
Q. Is this a license that is now required to operate a boat?

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
A. No, this is NOT a license requirement. It is an educational requirement that mandates that everyone that operates a power vessel take a boat safety course that is approved by the Superintendent of the State Police.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
Q. I took a course a few years ago but do not have a Boating Safety Certificate issued from the State Police, what do I do?

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
A. You can contact the State Police directly at (609) 822-2000 Ext. 6181 and they will look it up for you.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
Q. How will I know if the course I took was a state certified course that satisfies the education requirements?

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
A. You should have received a Boating Safety Certificate issued by the State Police. If you are unsure of whether or not you have taken the correct course, you can contact the State Police at (609) 822-2000 Ext. 6181.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
Q. I have been boating for a number of years; will I still need to take the boating safety course?

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
A. There is an experienced boater provision that was written into the law in response to boaters that have been boating for a number of years. This language allows the Superintendent of the State of Police to develop an "experienced boater test". Persons taking and passing the test will not be required to complete the boat safety course. The test has not yet been developed.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
Q. How will I know when I need to take the course by?

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
A. The education requirement is being phased in over the enxt four years as follows:

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
Persons born after December 31, 1978 have to take the course immediately. Persons born after December 31,1968 and on or before December 31, 1978 have to take the course before June 1, 2006. Persons born after December 31, 1958 and on or before December 31, 1968 have to take the course before June 1, 2007. Persons born after December 31, 1948 and on or before December 31, 1958 have to take the course before June 1, 2008. All other persons need to haven taken the course before June 1, 2009.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
Q. I currently have a boat operator's license, does this satisfy the requirements?

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><TABLE width="95%" align=center><TBODY><TR><TD>
A. No, it does not. The boat operators license is a "Non-Tidal Boat Operator License" that is issued by the MVC and is only required if you boat on non-tidal waters such as lakes and non-tidal rivers in NJ. Where applicable, it mst be carried in addition to the Boating Safety Certificate.

The A-holes around here think the size of the boat, and bank account controls the right-of-way. If they know you would come out on the bad end in an accident, they aren't slowing down, turning, or stopping regardless. Their attitude is, you should have insurance to cover your boat they just slammed into the dock with their 6' wake, and FU, you little poor bastard.

in some states your wake is your responsibility. if you cause
a boat to get bashed up against a dock you can be held
accountable. i guess it could be hard to prove, not sure.

I contacted the DNR about a problem like that here. The DNR here all went to a special A-hole school that is required ot hold that position. I was told there wasn't anything they could do, and suggested that I buy a video camera and spend my leisure time doing their job. If I had a video, they MIGHT could do something about it.

File a report withe the Coast Guard, they'll shake the DNR's tree.

Another state "Make Work" program! I'm sure it will be money well spent! Next will be a Max speed limit, mc greevey tried it, I'm sure that if it was 60 mph rather then he 35 that he wanted it would have passed. In my area of NJ about 95% of the boats can't reach 50 mph, most are fishing boats.

QUICKSILVER

Most of the people pushing for speed limits are property owners that see how the idiots drive, and damage their property. Most of the old women don't understand that 35 mph in a 35' boat is the worst possible speed for creating a huge wake. I think educating the boater on the rules and regulations of operation, and wake control, might stop some of the complaints, and the push for speed limits. The old farts feel that slowing you down is the only way to accomplish safer boating. I think boater education is, because I know most don't have the slightest clue that they are breaking the law, or causing damage they are responsible for. They don't know that any rules exist, because no one made them learn them. They strap on 30 something foot penis extention (their boat) , and go out and show their ass , and hope everyone gets a good view.
