OptiMax 300XS Key Features

* 3.2 Liter V-6 Powerhead features stroked and balanced crankshaft for maximum displacement and performance
* Extensive R & D result in Formula 1 race based exhaust porting and reed block fuel induction design for top power
* New combustion chamber design results in engine producing peak power longer at upper end of operating RPM range
* A unique two-stage direct-injection system atomizes fuel into small, uniform particles, resulting with a complete and instantaneous combustion.
* Fuel/air mixture is injected into the combustion chamber at 95 psi (15 psi higher fuel/air differential than standard DFI or OptiMax product) for enhanced high rpm running quality.
* New PCM 07 microprocessor features a 14-pin Deutsch connector harness which incorporates engine ignition and SmartCraft CAN (controller area network) wiring in one connector
* The SmartCraft Engine Guardian system monitors engine functions for early indications of problems that could lead to engine damage.
* The 60-amp, belt-driven alternator is the most powerful in its class.
* Electronic multipoint lubrication system delivers precise amounts of oil where and when it's needed.
* Acoustically tuned foam cowling wrap and new exhaust bucket design results with quieter engine sound throughout the operating range.
* Through hull Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH) is further reduced on 25" and 30" models thanks to the used of softer upper and lower engine mounts.
* A new exhaust system, along with a foam lined cowl and attenuator for the compressor greatly reduces the operating Dba.
* Torque Master, Sport Master and new Heavy-Duty Fleet Master gearcases are enhance the versatility of the worlds most powerful available for virtually any application.

Check it out.

Sorry to burst Greg's bubble. Saw it on Offshore Only. Wildman noted somewhere else on this site that the 300xs is 1500 dollars less than 300x.
I do know that the 300xs is uglier than the 300x.

3.2 Stroker

It sure is not beutiful, but it does seem interesting.

Two observations: 5400-6100 rpm operating range should give a long engine life, but indicates that this is more of a fishing engine. It is going to give Yamaha some competition in the 300hp DFI segment anyway.

And that 4-blade ET looks interesting.

like the fact that is a stroker, hate the look ( but it would not be an issue for me when considering the purchase ). What I really hoped they would do is give it an bigger RPM band. 6100 is SHORT, was hoping for 6500plus!.

So we went from one 300hp premium gas user to another 300hp premium gas user with a pump. Bash is not impressed. http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/8905/bash4pz.gif (http://imageshack.us)

Prop it down and remove the rev limiter....she'll do 6500 RPMs......
Merc is just underestimating the revs/
This will get double the gas mileage at cruise compared to a 300x...
But at WOT, you will not see much of a difference between the 300x - 300xs
I see merc used the standard 3 liter mid-section which will not take the beatin'
like an X motor...I betcha the powerhead weighs more than the X....
But the mid is lighter? How much does this suka wiegh?

I agree with you Bash, if it were capable of making 300hp on regular I think they would sell alot more of them to the offshore fishing crowd!

Yes it's another 300 that burns high octane but it will only burn half as much. That's a plus right?

I see that there is a new 14 pin harness that includes normal wiring and smartcraft cable. Sounds good. They have not included Digital throttle and shift in this model. Fisherman would have loved it. You can get on the 225 optimax and all verados. I think this is a fishing motor. Too bad about the 91 octane.

That is indeed a "plus"...and seriously, I am happy to see Merc continue to develop their DFI technology. But they need to make it as acceptable as possible now that 4 stroke technology "threatens" to take over in all market segments except the high performance crowd.

Plus it has 3 stars in the picture which meas the tree huggers  will let me use my boat ;)

BTW did anyone else check out the ACE drive

Mercury Racing has just written a new chapter in the book of revolutionary marine propulsion with the development of the all new dry-sump ACE drive. The drive is robust enough to handle engines between 600 and 800 horsepower with an input torque rating of 800 ft-lbs. The engine/transom plate/drive package is nearly 200 pounds lighter than a comparable engine outfitted with a standard size transmission and dry-sump Six drive. Both the drive and transmission feature dry-sump lubrication for higher efficiency and reduced operating temperatures.
The unique through-hull location of the compact transmission enables the transmission to be installed after the engine is first mounted. Access to the transmission from the transom also allows the transmission to be removed and serviced without having to pull the complete engine.
KEY FEATURES

Removable transom assembly cowl enables easier access.
Accepts both through-hub exhaust Maximus and over-hub exhaust cleaver propellers.
New interchangeable water pickup is mounted at the rear of the gearcase torpedo.

Sound pretty cool for the car motor croud

It will probably go the way of the 2fiddy XS. Started out a very hot motor burning 92 octane. Couple of years of reliable service and high sales then slowly detune it and reduce the octane requirments. The 06 250XS is a shadow of the 03 in power.

Get them new Merc motors when they come off the line the first year. They're the fastest of the bunch.

Shouldn't be too bad considering it is a Stroker, it should make some torque

Did they list a weight for the 30XS? How do you think they'll do head to head against a 300X?
It looks like my 05' X motors dropped a couple thousand in value over night.......

What about the 2.5 champ they have listed and the 200xs whith the Alien style cowl?It said the Camp would spin something like 8600 rpm's and carry tunnels to speeds in excess of 130 mph. Besides the fact that they look better than the other ones comming out from Merc does anyone know anything about them (especialy the 2.5 Champ). It looks like the 200xs maybe just has a different mid and lower and cowl than the regular one.Any insight into these motors?

The 200xs (SST-200) is the opti max powerhead on a champ midsection with #4 gearcase.

Purtty much figured that, but what about the champ 2.5? Seems kinda like a 300 drag on the short mid with a speedmaster. At least they still make that. Lets see any of that other e-tech **** or anything else for that matter that will run with that.Ain't going to happen.Mercury is still the best when it comes to performance. I new even though the market is at 4 strokes now ,they wouldn't just leave the outboard world hanging and get beat buy the other brands. They still need to be a competeter ( make that leader)in the f-1 series .I don't care if the other brands make 10 fast motors, they still will not outrun the fastest Merc. This motor still may not hang around for that long but they will come out with something that will run ahead of the rest of the pack whether it is a 4 stroke or not.I know things are not that bright right now,but the others have a lot to learn before they can earn the recognition that Mercury has in the performance world.Argue if you want ,but with this motor ,Mercury still has the fastest motor hands down.Once you go Black, you never go back. Run the best or follow the rest!
