Cowtown put big bore carbs on and were bogging out of the hole, letting the blk. motors getting 2-4 boats out on them and running them down.not much you can do with that horse power.I hear there maybe another OMC being built to compete.

Every time I hear about cowtown, I'm afraid I might puke. Fast you say, then why is it he only beats the 60hp by 6-7 boats.. As bad as I hate to admit it. If bunker gets into the v6 playing field, the rest might as well save their gas money.

I here there was small v6 merc on the floor at a car lot south of salem

How far south of salem you talkin bout? lol. Theres no v-6's in bunker yet. The cowtown boat is fast but threres a merc. from way down south that can take it. It had a reed blow through the motor the night before and still did dam* good. Cowtown hasnt done nething new in years that I can notice, But you gotta give the 60hp credit, that's wicked doin that good. As far as the black motors go, heres the stat's OMC products won every class this year!!hehe:D Merc's moto should be once you go black you can't pick up the slack. lol, wonder what i stired up there lol. What kinda pictures you lookin for? Hey rockdamage, whata ya think about tryin to get a frostbite run togeather for sometime round the middle of january or febuary. Let's throw on the carharts and make a current river run.

Ah some Mo. boys. Troutt and sons is all I have to say! This one rips! 56mph up 60 mph down, two men deep cycle and troller plus 30 pack of busch beer! The beer was gone on the trip backG.P.S. dont lie my fathers and mine agree. Anyway put in at valley park and made here to roaring springs cave and back.
I'm in St. Louis gave up on the bigger rivers, and bought this kewl boat 98 225smerc with goodies, prolly at least 275 150 lbs lighter than the Yam with sythetic liner /stainl imp. of course.

60 mph huh. with 2 dudes and stuff
what mpeller and what rpm ????? you should have read the gps before you got plastered.

vrod02
12-25-2006, 09:45 AM
Crack pipe!Lol! 6800 rpm. I'm 180lbs and my dads 160lbs. The boat does 60 . The gator jet crew have a few "inboard jets" at 100mph. The H.P. has got to be sick!

rockdamage
12-26-2006, 07:38 PM
If it will turn 6800 rpms you would be aroung 70mph with a 7 5/8 impeller
most 250's can't hit 5600 r's with the engine pulled under. spinning doesn't count.

with a 7 5/8 turning around 4300 most boats are in the 40 mph range. @ 5500 the average would be 56 mph giving a 16 mpg gain with just 1200 r's , just a little over 1.3 mph gain / per 100 r's. but yours turns 6800 .

thats 2800 over the 4300/40 mph mark--a gain of---2800/100= 28 x 1.33 =37.33mph gain for a grand total of 73 mph

Blahahhahaaaaaaaaa............... unless your spinning a 7 3/8 ? at which point I would ask why???

check your tach !

Started as a 225. Troutts said somewhere around 275Hp.It was Chris Troutt's personal boat/head Mech. These guys know there @#$#. Been around the longest in Mo. I know it runs well over 6K. I'm well aware of outragous boat mph numbers. This one is done at 58-60. 70 is obsene!!! I'll call tommorrow and ask about the impeller. I know its got a special proto sythetic liner. We cruise at 28-34 at 2800-3100.

My uncle and dad both have 1995 suzuki 85/60 jets. I was wondering if anyone knew if these could be turned into a racing outboard that would be competitive with the big boys.

thanks for the help.

p.s. we can outrun all other stock competitors on the rivers new and old. That's stock vs. stock.

vrod02
12-26-2006, 08:37 PM
Call the troutts. You know where there at.

rockdamage
12-26-2006, 10:33 PM
you'll never get anywhere if you can't do most of the work your self.
your 85 hp is only 73 cubic inch! thats an automatic disadvantage.

It's realy easy to talk about, but there are few who can compete. As far as outrunning all the local stockers. It matters none. Boat speed depends on location. In vanburen most boats are family boats. And the dealers don't spend time setting the boats up for performance. Just want them out the door. Lower current has some of the slowest outboard on the river. I outrun half the v4's I see. ( with a 60/40 ) But , on the upper current I get smoked. and a few hand fulls of the 60/40's boats can hang with 150's. If you were able to run your 85 suzuki above powder mill you would feel outclassed.

My point is, in different places the same boat may be 5 mph faster or slower depending on the boats owner and use.

The suzuki sould be a sound engine to build. start with the minor things. exhaust , head , and jets.

If your boat is junk then don't waste your time. Take a 6 ft strait edge and lay under your boat. If there is more than 1/8 inch of rise between the crossbraces then work on the boat first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It must be flat!!!!!!!

As far as Troutt, The parts availblity for mercury is 10-1 compared to omc. There is no excuse for them to be getting beat year after year by Cowtown!
I wish they would get serious. But until then I will remain on the cowtown wagon- as bad as I hate omc. And no one will ever out run their omc with a stock merc and a 500 pound boat Forget it! that won't get it done........

vrod02
12-26-2006, 11:01 PM
Fastest on the water, probably not. 60 yes and I dont smoke crack. As far as OMC I learned better in the early 70's complete junk. I'll stick with the St. James boys. They might not be winning, but they produce a more functional boat IMHO.

rockdamage
12-26-2006, 11:22 PM
I used to smoke alot of crack, but it got to costly. So insted of buying crack, I would put the money into a quart jar. And by the end of the month I would have enough money saved up to buy heroin!

I've been happier ever since!

Rockdamage,

You say that doniphan has some of the slowest boats on the riv, which may be true but be careful if you mean all of the lower current and all the boats. In fact when it warms up a bit bring your boat and the big yami. I bet we can find a V4 to take care of yours and for sure a bigger motor for the yami. Let the tail tuckin begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rockdamage
12-27-2006, 09:55 AM
meaning below vanburen !!! and there is no v4 that will out run that 225 yammi . not even Jeff bell's

Where were all you guys with these big bad boats when I had the race in VB......and I said half the v4's THAT WOULD MEAN THE OTHER HALF IS FASTER THAN I !

12-27-2006, 10:09 AM
Thank you for the information, that's why I come here. I always used to think that inboards were the coolest thing, but ever since I went to my first boat race I've been leaning towards the outboards.

The thing is our boat won't be that fast this summer since dad is talking about buying a new bass boat and putting that motor on it. Oh well guess I'll have to talk my uncle into selling his and then let the mayhem begin...lol.

If i had money id tell you what id do, for all the litl people in the world id go to bunker mo. only the best little 60 johnson in the whole $#$#*% world could run so good. and what do i hear, i hear a v-4 is in creation. only to be put on 17*48 to stand it straight up in the air. if its true, nobody will win except the bald man, i know not everybody is omc people so id put the rest of my money on a merc sittin on yellow bank of the current river. if you dont know where it is ill give you directions. ive see it, its sick. ive seen it all. ive seen who proves it on a cosistant basis. cowtown, trouts, even van buren dont prove it. so dont talk, just go fast...

You know what I think......Don't think.....Mouth some more and In a few month LET'S RUUUNN EMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get some races togeather and let's let the motors do the singin!!!!!

rockdamage
12-28-2006, 09:30 AM
why not a 16-48
Sheezzz I once had a 200 hp omc turtle head on a 18-48 all weld.
one of the slowest boats on the river though! But it wasn't too much wieght.

river_ratj40
12-28-2006, 01:02 PM
i cant talk for everyone, i have always had more success running a 17x48 with a long shafted motor. its like a lever is being placed on the transom, the shorter the boat the more the front will slap the water. not that thats a bad thing, but it gets hard to control with more speed. the longer boat gives you a little bit more control. if i could cut my shaft down to 15 in then i might go with a shorter and wider boat. with my 17 ft length i have to cut weight by going with 48 in bottom rather than a 52 in bottom. i agree that wider boats ride up and out of the water more, but gps and time trials have shown me that its a hair slower with my setup. just my 2 cents worth.
thanks
