View Full Version : Strengthening the transom

I took my little Checkmate Mx14 to the shop to have knees put in to strengthen the transom. I stopped by today to check on it, and I was really impressed with the work they have done. They put these two knees in, and it's all epoxy work, so it should be plenty strong. They ground out the old crack in the spashwell, repaired it, and will gel coat it, then put an aluminum piece on the inside of the transom. I'm really happy with the way it's turning out.

What motor are you goning to run? If a big motor put some tie bars in it.;)

nice ride minx, i had the same boat with a 115 inline merc, 24 chopper,and 4or 5 inch hydraulic jack. it screamed prob. 60 + i think. whe had no gps back then good luck ED

That would be a fun little boat, and think of the money you save by not having the big V6.

The Boat Hospital in Deland. They also reformed an engine hatch for me that had become warped because someone cut a scoop in it. They built a jig and got it back to the proper contour. They also strenghened it. Real nice people.
