Florida has it all and were ever you are its usually a short drive to some other good places.
St. Johns River (Northen area Palatka, Southern area Sanford)
Harris Chain of Lakes (Leesburg)
Clermont Chain of Lakes (Clermont)
Winter Haven Chain of Lakes (Winter Haven)
Kissimmee River, connecting West Lake Toho (Kissimmee) all the way down to Okeechobee which connects east to South Florida and West to Alva and Fort Myers
Suwannee River
Alligator Chain of Lakes (St. Cloud)
East Lake Toho (St. Cloud)
All of these are within 1 to 2 hours away if you live in the Central Florida area.
I would say no one is better than the other, thats why we Floridian's are always on the water some place in Florida.

Amen to that.
I even like to run on Lake Okeechobee, as long as its not rough, there is enough lake to run forever.

speed limits on any of these lakes & rivers, or do you have to be so many feet from shore, or anything like that? Thinking about moving to mid-florida. Thanks

Can't argue with with the above recommendations, but it sounds like the best answer is an area not a lake. If you stay in central florida (like orlando) you have a good bar scene downtown, and you are less than 2 hours from every almost every spot mentioned. You can hit the suwannee, st. Johns, harris chain and winter haven, lake tarpon (new bar opening shortly right on the lake), lake seminole...etc.
Like parker said, once you do one of the river runs, you will be hooked!

You could even head further south. Why stay in fresh water when you could run both flat calm, bay chop and ocean swells!! Check out anywhere from Ft Pierce south to Palm Beach. If that doesn't excite you there's always Markem Park in Ft Lauderdale for straight speed runs, the everglades Holiday Park for "Gator Jumping" and South Biscayne Bay for crystal clear early am runs to the upper keys. You get to see all kinds of wildlife running through the bay....sharks, turtles, stingrays, dolphins, manatees, etc. Boating in Florida is not a hobby....it's a way of life!!!

The St.Johns has a "slight problem" with the cops. At certain times of the year you think you are in "Natzi Germany! Pure Dick$ The Suwannee is great, all central Fla. lakes are very good--they can get rough!--But, in my opinion Winterhaven chain has the best two bars, and I heard they are fixing to open the chain up to several other lakes!

Corona Mike , The law is usally pretty fair on our end of the St. Johns . A couple of years ago I ran way to deep in to a Idle Zone in the Mirage . Was at about 95 mph when I shut it down , the motor was idling but the boat was on a full plane at about 40mph as I pasted the officer . We just smiled and waved at each other . You got to love it when it works out that way ! Rich Martin 018:D

why is that????
becuase the running is great no idle zones and wide open threw the canals and under the bridges ( under the bridge the offshore exhuast is sick loud :D ) and you can pull over and park on the bank anywere you please compared to the swannie theres just about no trash or (floaters) to be worried about hitting at any speed it's a blast and the people around it are the best people you could ever wanna meet .

Don't know much about the water/lakes around Mt. Dora & Tavares, but I was wondering how many of the lakes, or how far can you go from that one lake in front of Mt. Dora? To the north, etc...? Thanks, M/C:)
