I had a sportfire a few years back with a 2.4/200 merc and try 6 and 8 and was a lot better with the 8 and a 26 merc chopper with the weed cutters.

Hey thanks for the reply. Im guessing that the 9.5 will be okay...what do you think?
Also what speeds were you running with your setup, and did you have Porpoising problems with that much setback?

I have a sportfire with a 5 inch hyd jack plate and a merc v6. The boat naturally sits with its bow high and stern low in the water when still. This problem is only going to get worse with more setback you hang on the boat. knowing how mine sits in the water i would be very cautious about adding any additional setback. "unless I could borrow one to try before I buy"
You also have to consider the extra stress placed on the transom of the boat with the extra setback and weather its worth the risk. Good Luck:D

Thanks ttown Im going for the 5 1/2'' CMC with 2'' spacer. If It turns out that the 7.5 is too much Ill just take off the spacers. The transom is already beefed up and Im adding transom plates on the inside as well...should be fine.

Well, mine really didn't porpoise with the chopper prop and i ran the engine high..like even with the water plug..my best top speed was 77 on a hand held gps at about 7000 rpm if i remember correctly.
