HULL: '89 21 Checkmate Starflite w/ Detwiler jack and Sea Star Pro steering. 6 inches of setback. Featured in Hot Boat March 2000.

POWER: stock 1993 2.5/245 carb motor sitting on '89 2.4 mid and LU with can pulled and exhaust drilled. Any advantage to adding velocity stacks??

PROP: 23 Yamaha Pro Series thru hub 3 blade stainless. Assumed to be 14 1/4 diameter. Runs 70 @ 7000r's. Can't jack this prop up. Also have 24 Chopper that runs 74 @ 7200 r's but gives no bow-lift 'cause I gotta jack it up high. Running a stock gearcase w/no bullet nose. Any advantage to running a smaller diameter wheel with more pitch? Maybe a 13 3/4 26 Trophy? Looking to get to 7300 rpm's WOT. Opinions needed.

I have the same boat, except with 2.5EFI 260 . I have about the same setback as you and I run a bob's cone with prop shaft even the bottom. I have a 25p trophy that runs 78 at 7000, I also tried a 26 merc chopper and it went 79 at 7000. I like the trophy the best it carries a load better. I think you need a nose cone, I have a sportmaster also and it wasn't as fast as the bob's. Let me know thanks.:)

Aquire a bobs nose cone, Then add a little cup to your chopper, this will help it carry the bow, without spending the money for a new prop.
