unfortunately that will keep happening until the punters realise the deck needs to be as strong as the hull
F1 tunnel boat cell is stronger than anywhere else on the boat.
( ok the hatch is an issue and needs fixing)Last edited by powerabout; 11-09-2017 at 08:22 AM.

Well..Bobs four engine boat was very heavy. Not sure what it takes to build a big cat like that to hold up for a 170 MPH flipp.
A few weeks before the Key West accident Bob asked me to be his co-pilot in the Key West race.
$10,000 was going to be my part of the cost..
I told Bob no thanks and said "if you flipp that monster you are dead"..
Bob answer was..I have raced that boat so many years Lars and its impossible to flipp it.
Well..Bob I am still going to pass on your offer.
Jeff Tillman and Bob raced many times together and I guess Jeff said yes when Bob asked him to be his co-pilot in Key West 2011..
The first picture is the boat with the four engines at Lake of the Ozarks.
The second picture is me in the cockpit and it was a big cockpit..way to big to be safe.
Third picture is me in Key West long time ago when we was helping Bob a the race. Big Thunder Marine was his marina at Lake of the Ozarks.
Many good memories.." the Kansas bad man" was fun to hang around.

wise man Lasse.
I think a few of the offshore guys should take a look at a current F1 boat ( or unlimited drag boat) and realise in an accident the boat can be trashed but the cell and driver will be ok.
Every video I have seen in the last 10 years killing offshore guys were all survivable had the cockpit not fallen to bits

The safest place at a boat race is standing on the dock watching others..it took me many years to figure that out..
I did twenty years of tunnel boat racing without cockpit and survived .. my instinct told me its time to get out I used up all my luck..

Well..did not help this time, so sad.
Joe Sgro, Principal of Outerlimits Powerboats, lost his life following a crash during the Miami to Key West Poker Run. Reports indicate Sgro’s 50 foot canopied monohull rolled over at speed, and while the other four occupants of the craft escaped injury, Sgro suffered serious injury. He was airlifted to hospital, but during the journey his condition deteriorated and he passed away in hospital.

Andy Bullen was very active in F1-V8 racing both in Europe and the USA.
This is his Burgess/CORA/Johnson V8 3.5 liter looper, carb model 12 inch mid section.
