    Inline 6 Trim/Clamp swap?

Has anyone tried to swap a clamp style inline 6 mid with a 3 ram v6 swivel and clamp? The later inlines have a 3 ram trim setup but is it the same as a V6? Is there some kind of oddball part that mates the 2 or does the inline 6 mid just bolt right on to the V6 Swivel/Lower mount?

There are guys on here with WAY more experience than I. I can tell you that I recently bought a 1975 1500 mounted to a 3 ram. I believe it its the same tilt/trim unit that was used on the 1980s inlines. I was talking to a V6 guy last night about early and late style bolt patterns for the inlines. Early inlines with the external trim pump have a tighter bolt pattern than the later inlines with the 3 ram. I found that out when I tried to bolt the 1500 w/ 3 ram up to a Viper that had the external style trim originally. My friend (who is big into V6 ProMax motors) said that smaller non-V6 motors with 3 ram have the small bolt pattern and the 3 ram units from V6 motors have the wider pattern. He also said either will bolt up to the inlines. I can't tell you if that is true or not, but someone on here definitely can.Click image for larger version.

Pretty sure the clamp and saddle are the same as the V6. The inline may use a different swivel pin and lower yoke.

The bolt pattern to the boat is the same. I've been staring at the 3 ram and trying to formulate something to make it work on an XS. The external trim is suxxors.

So it sounds like I can use the clamp and swivel bracket from the V6, with the tiller arm and lower yoke from the inline?

The upper bolt holes on the 3 ram on my inline are 1/2" wider than the holes from the external trim it's replacing.

Ok, so I misunderstood. All 3 rams are BIA. Is the transom bolt pattern on the old style clamp the same between manufacturers? Will an old style inline Merc clamp bolt up where the 115 Johnson of the same year came off?
