    Hey remsrfer

Love the pictures of the Budget Buster. Reminds me of the old days at Bass Lake with our boat when I was a kid. I'll work on getting some measurements for you. Can you email me a list of what you want at gi@talcofire.com so I can print it out?

    Gary

Here is a copy of an old Stevens brochure that was given to me by my dad when I got the '57 Stevens they bought in '63. I'm assuming the brochure is from when he went boat shopping, i.e. circa 1963.

This is the front side of brochure. I've placed them in the same order here as on the brochure.

Just a side note: While doing research on Don Towle, the driver of the SK-45, Don worked for Vic Edelbrock. In the book published by Vic, a photo shows that the Edelbrock family also owned a Stevens boat.

    My Stevens

    I just bought This 1965 Stevens 17ft Sillouette with a 1964 Pontac GTO389

All that stuff is coming back again too, it's amazing. Metalflake finishes and wood decks are on the rise as well.
I may be off a year or two on this, but the big 396/427 Chevy style engines came on the scene around '65 or '66, so most boats built prior have had an engine swap if they're big block powered.
Headders, or, "dry stacks", as they were called, were only used on race boats, and even then, not ALL of them. Though many independant makers made exhaust stacks for customers, it was Bassett who started mass producing headders for the masses, again, somewhere around(I think) '65.
Consequently, you'll find most boats earlier than '65 had thru-hull exhausts originally.
No matter, you'd be hard pressed to find a factory set-up boat these days, like their land counterpart hot rods, most people will tell you they're never finished!
By the way, Harlan isn't the only game in town. Jim, or John Miller of Miller Boat Fame(brothers with two separate businesses) still build fantastic wood decks here in So Cal, as well as Clayton John ( C.J.)who's in Oakhurst Cal., I believe. Interested wood deck guys take note.
Hang on, I'm still going to post a few pictures of my boat(s) so you can see what I'm up to. I'm jealous, your ski boat is running, mine isn't.......................

Looking for any information on Stevens flatbottom with an V8 Olds. Looks original Has the manufacture plate on right stringer. Haven't seen any paperwork yet. Trying to figure out what year the boat is and year for tandem axle trailer. Any information would be a big help. Thanks, Wayne 626-261-1054 So. Calif.

I don't think so. That's not how a reverse ground camshaft works. The way you say it works would be a stupid thing to do. Why it would be a dumb thing to do that way first is why would anybody want to take the intake mixture through the exhaust ports which would mean thru the exhast valves as well. That would result in a huge loss of horsepower because the intake valves are always larger than the exhaust as my BBC has 2.30 inch intake and 1.88 exhaust respectively. Where was the blower mounted? Some kind of intake manifold over the exhaust pipes coming out of the intake ports over the lifter valley spreading out over the valve covers down to the exhaust ports? Where's the distributor mounted? Everything is the same except the camshaft which makes the engine run in reverse rotation. I have a reverse rotation bored and stroked 409 chevy that;s out to 488 CID. You have to modify the starter, and the distributor, that's it. Sorry I screwed this up. This is in reply to a post by Spike Morelli on page 6 of this thread about a nail head buick. Sorry

Crossram, the Buick in the Stevens we are talking about has a reverse flow camshaft, but the engine is not a reverse rotation , two different things entirely.

In your original post you didn't say reverse flow camshaft, you said reverse grind camshaft. Reverse grind camshaft is the usual term applied to a camshaft that makes an engine run in reverse rotation, hence the misunderstanding. Thinking you meant reverse rotation I was shaking my head having experience with reverse rotation. Still the only reason I can imagine why this was done is just to show off the builder's engineering prowess. I've been around the racing game for fifty years, boats and mostly drag racing. I'm still shaking my head as to why. Other than an engineering accomplishment it makes no high performance sense. Looks like a lot of time and beautiful work just to be unique. I asked, " what kind of intake, a box to mount the blower over the exhaust pipes coming out of the intake ports over the lifter valley, with tubes over the valve covers to the exhaust ports"? I'm staring at exactly that in the picture. I stand corrected.
