If you run Lake George and into Silver Glen make sure and watch the weather.

Lake can turn deadly with the waves on a windy day.

A great run is to put in at Sanford and run to Lake George. Calm water but a few slow zones.

Also putting in at Palatka and going to lake George is another great run.

Hi all, new to this forum. I just bought a 66' Stevens 15'4" flat bottom from a local guy that converted it from an outboard to a V drive. It is now powered by a 327 bolted to a powerglide and then to the drive. What a total blast to drive! I will post pics next week.

Outoftheblue....how neat is that! I don't think I've ever seen a Stevens outboard to inboard conversion. From the photo, it looks like a real nice job of it, and the smallblock is in perfect proportion for the hull too. Nice!
Hit it.....about your 389 Pontiac powered Stevens, it looks like there's a side-by-side dual quad set-up on it. If it's a Mickey Thompson "power-ram", you've got a fairly rare induction,.....heck, if it's an Edelbrock "cross-ram", it's a fairly rare induction. Wood decked Pontiac powered.....restore it and be a demi-god!

Racered, Here's what your "swallow-tail" target design looked like on your 17' SK Skier, when new.( The picture is an 18' Silhouette, but the "target" is the same design. It's kinda rare. Other Stevens "target" designs were produced in much larger numbers than the "swallow-tail").

    Outoftheblue,

Nice whip! I just picked up a 16' with a 390FE. I plan to restore her top, as she's kinda ugly now, someone decided to rhino line the wood rather than deal with the up keep...

Hey Spike , glad to hear from you. I am still doing glass work on the Stevens. The stingers are done, the bottom is done, and gel coated. I doubled up on the transom wood and am finishing that now. I re- glassed the "cap" inside and out, and want to add some structure under the deck, then the hull will be turned back over for final gel and stripes. I plan to reproduce the "swallow tail". Thanks for the pics from the cataloge.

You should cruise over to Gunlake in SW Michigan Saturday July 23 for the Hotboat party, should be a minimum of 30 plus flats, jets and hydros on the lake this weekend.

    Spike,
Would you have any idea about the time this picture of the factory was taken? The wood decker in that shot looks like the one Terry Frahs bought and used for a demo in Jacksonville Fla. We used to come from Fla and pick up a boat or two at a time and Terry would build them up for his customers. I owned the 17 ft wood deck for many years and had many countless hours of sking and boating with it.

Just yesterday , someone called me with a maintenance question about the v drive and i told them about this site.

After reading all these pages it makes me want to give up my Fountain and get back to my boating roots.

    FormulaBill,
My guess would be early sixties on that factory Stevens photo. I haven't talked to Harlan Orrin lately, but I'll ask him when it was taken. Terry Frahs......I was told that Terry purchased a mold or two from mack Stevens back when. I can't verify that one way or another. I do have an old article from the early seventies ( I think), of a Powerboat Magazine Boat Test, of a Frahs 18' flatbottom with a tunnel-rammed BBC. Good looking boat. Maybe I'll scan the photo and post it up here.
You could always keep the Fountain AND have a flatbottom............. Spike
