That went down like a turd in a punch bowl. I'll take that as a NO-----you never did the 24hrs. That's the place where Jonroods do all the talking and advertising and the black baddies do the winning. Pure luck of course + a coupla million $.'s that never happened. Surprised, shame on you Willa just a stay at home country boy after all, huh !!!!!

Well, i'm going to tell you whether your interested or not.
Probably should have started another thread or some such thing, but let's wait and see what "the learned one " Wails on about !!!!!!
Went to see my grandson race the season opener in San Benedetto Del Tronto {which is the far side of Italy to the colonials}
Modified 42' fountain with a pair of ilmor viper marine engines stitched to a pair of twin disc surface drives. This combination won all the silverware last year, plus the world title, so you would think that somebody would have sat up and taken notice. But NO, this is boatracing. That's the sport where EVERYONE knows best. There was the same old set ups as in previous years, with some of the new Merc Hi Perf stern gear looking mighty impressive, but it didn't stop the fountain set up from spanking the rest of the field soundly. Won the 90 mile marathon at a trot on the saturday and blitzed the sprint race on the sunday at a steady cantor. but because he had caused so much humiliation to Freddy and his dreamers in the Joe Slgo OUTER LIMITS, a technical protest was lodged by Joe!!!!!! Sour grapes or what. Piss, or get off the pot.!!!!!!! Can't see anything there that is going to cause any problems in the French Grand Prix down in Marseilles 23rd/25th May. 5 will get you 10 the kids will stroll it again. Big Headed ?? no, simple fact. They are way ahead of the field in all respects. Freddy should get Ilmor to do the Hi-Perf Mercs and look to surface drives. Stern drives have reached their limit for the amount of horses going through them.
OK FELLAS, HAVE SAID MY PIECE------WORTH DISCUSSION OR SHOULD I MOVE AWAY ?????
I still love outboards and Mercs in particular, made a damn good living for many years selling 'em. Still have a worldwide collection of friends from racing the things and yes i suppose i could be a tad biased towards the black.

And do you know ,the top whack is just 112 mph, that makes it within a whisker of what the silo did on a 17' Moli. Downhill, with a tailwind of course on a good day.
Have to admit, the chest expanded to a full 46" when they took the final flag, and i couldn't resist a raised fist and a healthy "YES' I am one mighty proud grandpa.

So did i, it's a big girls blouse kinda sport. Then Craig and Mark started doing their thing and i had to show an interest. But for 3 years showed no interest at all. I call their boat "THE POWDER PUFF" which does not bring any endearments from them. Bloody Hooray , who cares ???

Ritchie Powers gave me my first ride in a triple outboard cigarette offshore at Cowes. Then Pruett showed me his prowess in the Ballesteros boat. Then Sirois in the Copeland Popeye. I was almost hooked, but looked at the expense side of things and realized it was out of my league. Still looked on in wonderment at the exploits of Doc Magoon and the transatlantic Blue Riband attempts. Somehow, the English side of offshore never had the Magic and Charisma of the U.S. That was classic " IT COULD ONLY HAPPEN IN AMERICA"

It's a Velden Hull. I can't imagine that it is actually 20 feet long, although it is a "Paris Boat" and they were bigger with deeper deadrise than most of the sprint hulls that came stateside. It must have belonged to Mercury at one time.
