    Havasu

As I remember, everyone complained about tunnel boat racing going to single engines for '72. But wasn't Johnny Sanders average speed in '72 the fastest average for that race up until that year? If I recall it was 84 mph?

Earl Bentz drove a Mcdonald tunnel with a Strangler that year and did well. That same boat whipped up on a lot of Mercs here in the Southeast too.

I will never be illiterate again, the damn thing even corrects spelling, betcha Willabee had one of these all the time. Will try and curb the old enthusiasm in the future, but keep looking to see if Jimbo and Johnny Sanders or any of the other old farts are alive and well and may one day drop by and say HI. Anybody know what happened to the old engine tuners? I still see Ron Anderson once a year down in Naples . Where's Doc Morgan.? Seebolds guy Alex ? Ritchie Powers, Dave Biers.
I believe Seebold's guy Alex was Alex Hledin......eh?

Richie Powers posts on here occasionally....He's "7xworldchamp"...... like all of us he never got over himself....except he had good reason

Doc Morgan.....had a sex change and is living with Reggie......

I think some of the above may be incorrect....

Yup!!! that's the one Only 2 people at Mercury ever told me the truth, one was Sirois, the other was Ritchie, all the rest lied or fabricated, and the greatest exponent of the latter was Pruett. Cannot comment on the Doc and Reggie, have to take the fifth on that ,on the grounds of diminished----etc, and the fact my grandson earns his living from Fountain World Wide. I don't think there were any incorrect statements . Whatever happened to LEO MA?????????out of Belgium, used to mecknick for Velden and then helped Seebold for a while. There was a brilliant 2 cycle engineer based at Belfast uni. called Dr. Blair, i think he had a loose contract with Mercury, but if you nailed him at a prize giving, he could keep you spellbound for hours . Good to see "SOMEBODY" in the U.S. still has a sense of humour and realizes we DID have a lot of fun in those days . Was beginning to think i was the only one left.

Pruett once told me he would pick me up in the company jet !!!!!!! Met him in Miami and he took me to Bradenton in a rented Cessna 152. Hellsteeth !!!! it could have been a microlite or even his favourite toy the dreaded gyrocopter . Another of F.B.I.'S stretching talents.

    '72 race

    Hey T2x,

The Geechee was raced there in 70 or 71. The boat that Earl drove in 72 was one of those missile looking Mcdonalds. It was no. 1022. Jimbo also raced one of those, used to co drive it with Ted May.

I think the Mcdonald was destroyed in a crash about a year later, must have been the same crash that hurt Earl pretty bad. I have some pics of the boat, just got to get them out and have them scanned.

used to love the Rick Keller Racing outfit. To me ,it was about as American as it could get. Always wanted a T shirt or a cap, never got either.
