The boat is currently rigged with a 175, and the former owner says 71mph (but agrees that the setup and/or prop might not be ideal).

The consensus seems to be that a single (especially on a 19 footer) is the hot setup, and should be able to get me into the 90s (which would be all I need, for today), but twin outboards are very cool (looking, sounding, etc), not to mention the added advantage of having backup power in case you play a little too hard...

I owned a 17 Foot Sterling and know of two others running 2.5 motors that get with the program single would be the best set-up IMO

Here is my transom mounted water pick-up feeding twin 2.5 260's. I was one of SangerSully's tire kickers, but this one popped up local to me, and I went for it. Point is, I bought it this way, and probably can't help more on this discussion because I did not rig it. I can take more pictures if it helps.

RiKuY, Your water hoses are running straight into the engines. Do you not even use the water pumps? I've seen the transom mounts feed the lower unit water pump like whaere a nose cone hose goes but have never seen them go straight to the motor. Any cooling issues at idle or low speed?

    Thanks

I believe this hull started out with a single outboard, mn808gade. I said the same thing when I saw the set-up, that plate is a LOT bigger than it needs to be. Rgsauger, the water pumps are still in and function. These are the 2-hole CLE's, so idle pressure is low, but temperature has been stable. Seems to be on par with what I have read on 2.5 260's with 2-hole CLE's. It is nice to know water pressure and amount moving through the engines is great, even when turning.
