    What Happened To The Koenig Motors

    I enjoyed seeing the pictures of the elaborate exhaust systems in the posts below. I remember back in the 50's when I was racing APBA B Stock Utility with an old super hurricane Merc (19.9 ci) on a Speedliner hull, that a outboard motor company called Koenig came on the scene with a dry stack header system hanging out the side. They let it run in our stock class too. Gave the new Mercury 20H's a fit. Is Koenig still around ??

    Konig is no longer in business. The originator of Konig motor, Deter Konig, was killed in an ultralite crash. His son sold the company to someone in the Czech Republic that now makes some of the stuff as Konny. http://www.konny.cz/

    Konig

    David, That pic doesn't look familiar. What I remember was a 2 cylinder motor, but in place of the exhaust covers on the side were two curved stacks coming out with a 90 degree sweep to the rear and then joined together in a reverse taper megaphone.

    David, Pavel started making Konnys before Peter stopped building Königs. They were quiet rivals for a few years. Peter is a business man and is making money apparently ... the outboards were his father's passion, but didn't make money for Peter the way his other business ventures do. He shut it down without selling or transfering.

    Roy the motor remember had both exhausts on the same side of the motor going back to a single pipe?

    I have a lower unit like the one on the picture but with a differrent midsection....the only thing I know is that it is from an German raceboat.....

    Konigs

    Yeh......the exhaust exited on the same side....port side if I remember, the powerhead was almost square looking, and the lower unit was almost identical to the Quicksilver lower units on the 20H's if I recall. The thing I remember most though is that they were LOUD, about 1-2 mph faster than a gold 20H, and about 2-3 mph faster than my old green and silver Super Hurricane. Those were the days....I was about 16 years old, and my dad and I could put the Speedliner on the roof rack on the 58 Ford, and the motor went in the trunk and we were ready to go racin'.

    Thanks for clearing that up for me Sam. I thought that Konny had bought out the outboard motor part of Konig.
