Hey Gator, ran into a friend from back in the day racing. Ed medley told me to say hi next time I talked to you. he is doing well and had many great things to say about you, even if many involved you passing him.

They did have a looper 6 before the v8 but not too many were built. It was known as the wonder motor as in wonder what it is. It was a 3 litre loop 6. They were fast but development stopped when the 8 came out. They also had a small loop 6 before the 150 inch cross flow

Never heard of that one. Can you provide more than anecdotal evidence?

Jim, help me put that in perspective year wise. What year was it that Billy and an OMC boat (Haunstein???) blew over together at Eufaula on the shoot right in front of the spectators................. and was it another year, or am I remembering that one wrong that Billy blew over off to the left and they couldn't find the motor that day, but divers found it a day or so later???

If OMC had loopers then it would explain a lot as to how all of a sudden the boats seemed a lot faster.

I'm sure that Billy blew over on the back one year. That's the year the motor was on the bottom. Back then, depth finders that would shoot a decent image were new, and we were trying to figure if we could get one somewhere and find that engine. I know when we left that day that they hadn't found it, but I remember hearing a day or say later that they did find it.......... seems like a day or so later.

I was also thinking I remembered him going over with another boat right on the front straight, but can't say for sure whether it was a different year, or I'm just confusing the location of the other one.

Boy, you talk about failin' memory.............. I'm the poster child.
