Display Colors???

I just bought this 2nd hand computer equiped with windows 98. Everything was fine untill it crashed. When I restarted it everything was displayed in a 16 color format. The option for 256 color under the display properties is no longer there. What do I do??
This is driving me nuts

It sounds like the computer has booted into Safe Mode. Try rebooting the machine and see if it gives you any startup options.

If not, then right-click on the My Computer icon, and choose Properties. Check out the Device Manager for any hardware issues (identified by a yellow exclamation icon).

Also check that the video settings are compatible with the monitor being used.

Finally, run Scandisk when everything is running okay.

Maybe list the system specs?

sounds like the video driver to me, it would say "safe mode" in all 4 corners of the screen if that were the case. See if the device manager wil tell you what video hardware is installed & start there (updating the driver)

Thanks guys. I manage to fix the problem (not quite sure EXACTLY how I did it)
There was a hardware conflict with my video adapter !?!?!
