    Question Power loss

I'm running an 88 2.4 and still have the original coils. I have noticed an RPM loss from last season to this season. Also I'm starting to get a skip or loss of power when trying to take off. It does'nt do it all the time but it seems to be getting worse. Usually at a certain RPM when I'm almost on plan or when the motor seems to be under the most strain trying to get out of the whole it acts like someone pulled a plug wire loose but then it kicks back in and gets up. I don't notice any loss when I'm up and running just when trying to get out of the hole. Could this be a coil going bad?, Fuel pump going bad?, or what else could it be.

    My '88 2.4

did the same thing a few years back. It ended up being the idle stabilizer module- replaced it and was back to normal. Just read another post today by Jay Smith about coils. He says new coils can make a big difference. Are you running original coils? Hope this helps.

    Idle stabilizer

As I recall, it's on top of block in back. Black box, approx. 4"x3" x1" thick with pigtail coming out of if. Don't know if that's your problem...mine cost about $130.00. May be cheaper from someone on this site.

what would a idle stabililizer ,have to do with lower rpm's??? my 88 2.4 don't even have one on it, i have the high/low spark advance module back there, but no idle stabilizer, still curious how a idle stabilizer would keep rpm's down????

    not consistant though

Sometimes it will jump right out but some times it seems to loose power and wont spin up to rpm's. When the motor is running right it will come out of the whole fine and when its not its like someone pulled one of the plug wires off while trying to get up. Idles just fine, runs at top end just fine. Just has a hesitation that comes and goes when trying to come out of the whole.

My EFI does the same thing. I sold a perfectly good 26p trophy plus, just because it didn't have the guts to spool it up...
