correct hub for Ron Hills props
I have a couple of Rons props ...a Yammy and a Triton copy. I seem to need a longer hub. The one I pulled out of my Trophy is about 1/4-3/8 too short. Anyone run into this before?

Ya, had the same thing happen. Run the solid hub and it fits perfect.

hub
The only one I have seen has the rubber strips on the side which is the one I have. How many hubs are there for the fat shaft? Who has these for sale? Thanks!

Same problem
jmc sounds like you have the solid hub (with the 4 little plastic strips), the only one available. I am having the same problem, I e-mailed Ron several times and he seems to think it will work, but I have determined that the prop needs to be machined shorter, just havne't got around to it yest as I have been trying to figure out my EFI trouble, Let me know if you find out anything different, thanks Scott

hubs
Hey Scott, I actually sanded the base of my prop barrell down a tad just so the "hub" would stick up above the bottom of the hole in the top of the prop. It didnt help, tons of vibration. I have heard there is a plastic hub but I don't know if it will fit better. Plastic doesn't sound too promising anyway. Heck I just want one that fits! Surely someone has crossed this path before. There are a lot of guys that have run "Rons" props with the short hub thinking the prop sucked not even considering that they were not properly seated. What I cant figure out is why some props have a shorter hub....like the authentic Hoss Tritons......while Rons, Hydromotive and a few others have the longer prop hub.

Regular shaft solid hub ....
The Regular shaft solid hub fits perfect, it has the 4 strips and the length in longer than the regular hub.
I had the same problem, but I don't know if it's true for the fat shaft hubs.
Mac.

Well, like I said, I talked to Ron and he didn't offer much more than what I said. The plastic hub is the standard (Light duty) one for the small shaft, I have one of those kicking around and it will slide in far enough to start to tighten (dosen't have the built in thrust washer that the HD unit does), but I can't use it because it is the small shaft
When you sanded the prop did the inner hub ever go in far enough to tighten like it does in a merc prop?Last edited by blkmtrfan; 04-13-2004 at 02:46 PM.

hubs
I didnt take near enough that i needed. I still need at least another 1/4" and If I sanded a 1/4 off the base I would be in the base of the blade. I thought about making a thick washer to go on top but it still would not stop the "slop" in it.

Cutting into the baldes
Yea I think I need at least 1/8" cut out which will be into the baldes as well, Ron said it should not be a problem (I was worried that it may start the blades to crack), we will see

Two Standard Shaft
Their are two standard shaft solid hubs from mercury. One size (length)for the fat shaft. Sorry I don't have the part numbers handy. I did get a prop from Ron that was too big for even the long ones sometime last year. If your solid hub is about the same length as the platic insert then you've got the wrong one.

I've got one on the way. Someone on another thread mentioned the same problems with a Merc prop.
Sounds like the Flo Torque is too complicated.

Damn Mercury
Damn Mercury has got to get the system all in one bag or come out with some dimensions for everything. If you go to parts express it's like putting clues together to figure out which one you need. I know the correct part numbers are on this page somewhere. Do a search. Plus with a 300X you have the big shaft and that is one size....the right size too. The smaller shaft hubs have a couple of different lengths.
