Parts for Land and sea jack plate?

Is there anywhere to get the teflon runners for an old Land and Sea model 500 hydraulic jack plate? It works great just seems to have a little play.

They still make them. The white runners in mine are worn out and half-broken, and I ordered some through Rickracer, and Land&Sea drop-shipped a set to me. They are black instead of white.

Someone told me they thought they could change them with the plate assembled and the weight of the motor lifted somewhat, but I find it hard to believe. In a few weeks I plan to change mine, I'm going to unbolt and hang the motor and take the plate apart to change the slide runners.

You can separate the 2 halves of the jackplate by just lifting the motor and sliding the 2 halves apart after taking the pin out of the bottom end of the hydraulic cylinder. One half stays on the motor and the other just stays with the boat. Be careful because the hydraulic cylinder is just sitting on dowels and can fall out once they are separated. Remove the bolts that hold the slides and tap them out. You DO need a chainfall or hydraulic lift of some sorts to do it this way. Takes about 15 minutes to do it this way........very very easy.

Oh my God I'm stupid! I never thought of doing it that way. I was not looking forward to pulling my back seat, gas tank, and battery just to reach the bolts. Burke, you're a genius!!

    Me 2 cents...

Try to squirk some Kroil or some sort of penetrate (sic) into the set screws that secure the slides (or runners) in place. One of mine snapped off it's head when I was backing it out. Made another out of 1/4x20 allen bolt. Have fun.

I had ordered a set from Land&sea and they sent me a set for the model 600. When I called they told me they didn't make them for the model 500 anymore. Do you have a part # Pyro?
The ones they sent me are also black but don't look anything like the runners that are on the plate now.

I took them out to the boat and they look like the same shape as the old ones, just black instead of white plastic. The part number says 609-602. Here' a view from the end of the package to show the shape of these ones. I got them from Rickracers, but you can get them directly from Land & Sea as well.

Those are for the model 600. They have made those since about 1982. The 500 was the older version and had a rectangular slide.

    OK, so mine's a model 600. cool.

Now, what about the damned GAUGE SENDER? Barry, you said it's supposedly the same as a late 1980's OMC trim sender with a different moving arm on it.

The part number on my bad sender says 512117.
The lever says 512211 in tiny letters.

I WANT MY JACKPLATE GAUGE TO WORK AGAIN!

Dunno for sure about the sender. I've never had their height gauge but I think I remember L&S changed the mechanism a couple of time over the years. 512211 is a valid Bombardier part number but I can't find 512117 in the parts books I have. I think they only service the sender piece as the whole assembly including the arm, spring, terminals, etc. so the p/n for just the sender may not show up. Have you taken it to a dealer and had them look it up?

I browsed the few late model books I have and found two with the #512211 arm. Prices are from 2002.

    #586036 for a 1996 60 or 70 hp $70.55
    #584702 for a 1998 V8 $45.61

    Hope that helps.

This sender has a "worn out" spot in its travel, where the gauge spikes, then drops, then comes up again. I've tested it, and it is bad for sure.

Land & Sea wants $160 for the "indicator kit." It's the gauge, wire, and sender, they're only sold as a package.

There is not a dealer within an hour's drive of where I live. Any dealer I've called about it plays dumb and doesn't seem to know anything about it.

I actually called Allen Bradley about the pot, because it is visible through the epoxy, and has a AB part number. They said that Clarostat bought out the potentiometer division, and I should call them. I called them, they said it's a 610 ohm extended linear taper Type J pot. These pots are now made by Clarostat, a special component made for this specific purpose. I can't get the pot by itself from any electronics supplier.

Here's the most info I've found so far:
    http://forums.screamandfly.com/forum...threadid=34589

I'm gonna research this further, but not to the point of insanity. I am just about ready to drop the $160 and order the kit, it costs more than the jackplate is worth!

    Here's the bastard sender:
