    Champ stuff...

In the states as well. Yes, he's a very good sleeve guy, however he's not a 'broke outboard fixit shop' Most of his work caters to his racing clientel. His sleeves are all custom made for his custom built engines...which is his primary business (complete engines). I have rarely seen any stock replacement sleeves in his shop, but I have seen him replace acouple stock 280 sleeves before. So, he may be able to help you out, but don't be surprised if he can't. I know right now he is up to his eyeballs in kimshee with stuff going on.

    jmr...

Was it Bobino (sp) Marine? Yes, he's a great one to talk to...pictures of the shop? haha...you may change your mind when you see the place. Mexican junk yard mean anything to you? Im not saying that in a bad way, I've been kidding him for years to cleanup and organise the place. Still the same when I go visit. Im affraid if he did clean it up he'd never find anything again. He likes his clutter and has his own way of doing what he does.

    Cool I'm surprised.

I Russ! only talk to him at phone and the bobino name was not mention but i know this shop is in the same area.

Do you mean he is the owner or partner in bobino shop?

    no,no..

Alex is of no relation to Bobino Marine. Not too far from each other. Usually the stuff that shows up at Bobino that they can't fix or handle, they typically will show up at his door with the engine and ask if he could fix it. :-)

    Alex Hledin

Alex Hledin has been a Mercury engine builder for many years. He is the brother of Peter Hledin (Skater boats). In the late 1960s the two brothers built tunnel hull race boats in Montreal, Canada. They built their first wooden hydro while still in high school and built their first tunnel boat in 1966 modeled after a photograph of a Molinari. After Peter broke his legs testing one of those boats, the brothers sidelined their racing career, but continued building boats.

I recall his experimental wood and aluminum SJ class tunnel hull (driven by Jean-Pierre Nicole), where they won Canadian Championships.

Alex built Mod U and F1 engines for Oley Berkis, Gerry Kowalski and several others in Canada and has worked with Seebolds and Mercury factory. He's a true creative designer!
