Sure does........ Which one.....Senior or Junior?
Both were boat racers.... they owned O'neill's Boat Yard in East Rockaway, Long Island. Mercury outboards and at one time the largest Checkmate dealers in the U.S. They were also our largest Shadow dealers.......
Marty Sr. passed away in the 80's and his son shortly thereafter.
Below is Marty Jr's last race boat.......

It was long time ago and I was pretty young, probably late 60"s??, I remember seeing Marty jr., (I'm guessing) race a red 13' Checkmate named the Red Baron with a 50 Merc, at or near Sayville or Patchogue, NY. I so wanted that boat, and later owned one.

Marty O'niell
Marty SR was the best Mercury mechanic ever. He would get my 1965 Merc 500 on my 13' Boston Whaler running so well that I could beat the Red Baron in the right conditions. I was a few years older than Marty Jr. My Uncle purchased the Irish Express from Marty Jr. That was a 16' Checkmate (competition model) that Marty raced in one race. Wish I had purchased that when my uncle sold it as it was and still is my favorite boat. So cool to see the O'niell's still being remembered. Those were good times.

No. It was not a tunnel. It was a deep V hull. Had the steering in the middle, foot throttle, same cowling that ran back to the motor. It was metal flake green with black metal flake around the edges. I will check to see if I can find any pics of it to post. It was suck an awesome boat and was such a strong runner in rough water. Your boat looks awesome. I also love the Checkmate tunnel. There is one in NJ all original in mint shape but they owner does not want to sell.

I was a very good friend of Marty Jr. Went to many boat races with him and shared many great times with him. One of his dogs names was Murphy.
