    Bert,
I agree with the "run what you brung" rules to get this class going......21-24 ft single outboard vee. With the mix of ocean, bay and river events on the OPA schedule,it will be interesting to see what boat and motor packages will work best for the varying water conditions.See you at the meeting.

"Cook out". We call them Barb B Q's

I have one at my shop and the butcher is across the street. Mabye after the meeting we will fire it up.........

Im thinking 2.0 ltr mercs. There cheap, plentiful and will keep pretty safe speeds.

    Unhappy ON THAT NOTE:

I have a garage full of "cookouts"
If 2.0 litre motors are the limit let me know now.
I dont want to waste a trip or buy another boat.
50mph maybe 58,, doesnt cut the mustard

if 2.0 up to 2.9 is a catagory
and 3.0 up to unlimited V-8 is a catagory

    I'm in.

Lets get the class P6 going,, then place limits. 2.0L off the bat is a bad Idea, and, if it comes down to that you lost 2 entries from PA.

    Question P5 or P4

Do these classes have size,HP, or weight restrictions? Their rules are very general...

In 2003 OPA has become it's own racing organization. Therefore there have been some changes to the class structure to help increase competition and make Offshore racing "spectator friendly." OPA races will now only offer five (5) classes of racing. P-1 to P-5 speed brackets will determine the racing class assigned to each boat.

    P5 - 70 MPH and under
    P4 - 70 to 80 MPH
    P3 - 80 to 90 MPH
    P2 - 90 to 100 MPH
    P1 - Over 100 MPH

This doesn't mean that Factory 1 boats or any other class of boat aren't welcome. F1 boats would run in P4 and F2 boats in P3 class. Sealed motors aren't needed but are welcome also. Motors can be built to any specification. This reorganization of classes will result in more boats per class.

    SC,
They basically run in a speed bracket...
Those are the speeds you see there.
It can be more detailed out at the meeting.
I for one don't know the exact details of their rule book, so I wouldn't want to mislead anyone.

As far as I know there wasn't much more restrictions. It was very clean and simple...

The one's actually racing can give you more of a handle on it..

The rules are somewhat relaxed. The weight, hp, setup, etc. are all open. You pick your top speed and run in that class. There is also a 25 or 26 foot limit in P-5 IIRC. And of course the boat must pass tech inspection for safety items, etc.

I suspect that there will need to be a separate class set up for the outboards to make it more equitable for them. One of the other things that will need to be addressed is what to do with an outboard boat that runs at p-3 speeds.

Hope to see everybody in Joisy, and next year in Cambridge

    f-1 is back?

Hey Tim, i can't believe what i'm reading in this email. If this is just like the f-1 class I raced in in the APBA days then f-1 should be 21-25 with a single outboard including an v-8 if there are any left out there. Anyone could win in those days depending on everything from water conditons to just plain driver ability but money rarely mattered in that class. I don't have the 21 Shadow anymore but I bet I can find something to race pretty quick. I'm in 100% but we have to race at least once in Barnegat Bay. Any reason why we just can't piggyback off of the existing races out there. Any chance the 21 ' Bullet molds are out there any where? are you ready to build any boats. I'll buy one stripped! Call me at the office at 973-823-9200 or email at joe.paparazzo@wellsfargo.com

They can choose to run one class down, but if they breakout of their bracket, they get bumped to the next class anyway.
    It's all about the SPEED.....

That is exactly what we are trying to do.
Step 1: The 1st meeting is this Sunday in Freeport, L.I. for the Single Outboard Guys Only. This will give a chance for everyone to air their views and try to decide on what they would like to see done.

Step 2, will be to have everyone attend the OPA meeting (to be announced) at the end of this week.

If we have strong numbers of serious people about bringing this class to life again, it will be done. OPA will have a hard time saying no if 10 to 15 boats would be willing to register their equipment @ that meeting...

If there is no interest at all, then all we can say is we tried...

But from what I am hearing, people's mouths are watering for this...

    Outlaw Too

BTW, NJ OUTBOARDS has a brand new 21 Superboat sitting out front waiting to go...
I believe it is rigged with the Evinrude 225HO or 250

Superboat did a superb job on restyling their deck on the new 21's. It looks like a scaled down OUTERLIMITS....
