ShipBear is right, The Hydrostream Viper is a great hull that was built to run a inline. Find the lightest one you can and learn how to fly. The other thing about Vipers are there not to hard to find. I've had mine for over 28 years and still love to fly it.

Don't forget about a 15 or 16ft allison
there was a few of them on the board I think for cheep (project boats) might be something to look into.

wouldn't necessarally be better (than the two mentioned above), but if you came across a good deal on a vandal or ventura, either of those would work very well too.
Comp. STV - 2.5 EFI
Vegas XT - 2.4 200
Vector project - mod. 2.4 225

One of my favorites
I've got a SpeedCraft( 16' Allison) copy that is built with a Balsa core running surface, and weighs about 350-360 lbs. I'm assuming it runs about the same as the real deal. The boat was originally run with an alcohol cross flow 235 OMC. Since I've had the boat I've ran it with a moderately ported 140 cross flow with 150lbs. of compression, and I've ran it with a 200 2.5 moderate port work and about 175lbs. of compression. The boat runs awesome with either engine, accelerates like a JATO and is a thrill to drive. Those small pad boats with alot of lift ( Hydro and Aero) lift turn their game on real quick with not alot power, they are very efficient. I've never run the boat with a stock 150ish but I'm sure set up correctly 90 mph is within reason. Like all well designed V- boats they prefer to run high but flat, and driven carelessly will sky up on you in a heartbeat..... High and flat is faster anyway.

Allisons are great boats, But up here in the great white north they are few and far between. There are more Vipers and Vectors up here than other Hydrostreams. If you just want to go fast and not try to ski or fish with it a Viper or a Allison should get up around 70 with a nice tite 1500, Just always remember lighter is better with a inline. Keep all the weight in the back and fly it flat, Just like Ted said .

I'm partial to the Allisons myself, but a Viper is shore' a good choice too. With today's blades and setup technology I think you could make either run 80, but think you'd be hard pressed to get one much faster.

You can do 80 with one if you have real light hull. Mine has run 81 in a 4 in. chop turning a 14X30 cleaver with the prop shaft 1/2 above the bottom. I think I'll be faster than that when I have time to dial in my speedmaster. With a short shaft engine it's a little easier you would have to have a long shaft setting pretty high in the air. I havn't weighed my comp Viper / XS sence I rebalanced it, Last time I did it was about 675 lbs. RTR .

The only time my SPEEDCRAFT has had a gun put on was at a SDBA race in Logansport LA., where it ran 71mph. in the 1/8 mile with a 25 pitch DAH cleaver. The boat had just hit cruise control at that point and would'nt turn more than 6900 rpm's due to the factory stock front-half I beleive. The cleaver was understandably horrible out of the hole, but ran pretty well after it layed over...Big secret there huh... I had an OMC Silverstreaker 23 pitch but spun the hub out earlier that morning-- was a much better running than the cleaver everywhere. This was all with the slightly mod. 140 I spoke of earlier. That's were my mph assumption came from ...This is the only small raceboat I've owned, but when I was young my Dad owned a Hustler Outlaw which is 15'6" (I think ) bassboat that has a pretty much direct copy of the Hydrostream Vandel hull under it, and it ran very well...... Hey Raceman!.. My brother told me that you blasted straight Chuck Yeager style in your 16' ALLY way back when! Any pictures of it with that cool fast mist behind it?

When I bought my first 15 Ally with a short 1500 the APBA kilo record for J Production was 79 point somthing and I couldn't get mine to run but about 76. The J Sport (same motor on a tunnel) was right around 90. Both records stayed hung there for several years, then all of a sudden David Lee and Doug Pearl had J Sport boats running over a hundred. There was a lot of speculation as to how. I think I could make a JP boat run 80 or slightly over now, but I'd hate to know I had to make it much more.
