    Thumbs up

Posing as a fellow boater in need of a lift to the nearest marina for a parts run, I cleverly snapped these pictures when Instigator was not looking.....

    Thumbs up My Report

First off, thanks to Brian for playing photo boy/boat bitch
Thanx to Bruce Bush for running with me while I figure out what I'm (and boat) doing.
It is a definet security blanket to have a second boat there when running a new rig.

    Now for the report.
To the nay sayers that think a fish motor won't run--- bring your **** to the Rumble
To the nay sayers about putting a Johnny on a Vector, you were freagin wrong!

We are still on a very steep learing stage and have'nt had the motor to within 3K rpm of it's potential but I will say this.
From about a 30 roll I'll run any non-nitrous boat that wants to run a fish motor

If you notice in the pixs you'll see that I'm by my self and am driving from the side seat.
I have'nt even gone to center steer yet.
The boat comes on the pad and stays on the pad.
I ran it 40 - 50 through 1 1/2 chop. I ran it between mid 80's and 90 in 6" - 12" chop at the end of the day after gaining some much needed driver confidence.

Now for the bad, this thing aint no stinkin drag boat!! (what I was afraid of)
I will be drag racing anybody that wants to at the Rumble but I will say right here and now that i will have my ass handed to me.
My problem is the ancient/**** OMC trim.
It is so slow to react that I've thought it was'nt even working several times!! It flat out sucks!!
To keep it from launching towards the sky, I have to bury the motor. It then launchs very hard but the next problem is that the boat lays on it's side and it would take 2 counties to get enough up trim to pick up the bow!!
I tried a couple of launches with the motor closer to a neutral trim position and it litterally cleared the water!
I now have to decide if I want to dedicate the time to adding a plate on the motor and what ever tricks I canm come up with all while knowing that my trim will still be my anchor???
So far though, this project is a 100% succes and once the motor is broke in totally and I get some more seat/test time, I will "DESTROY" the 100MPH barrier!!
Here's a couple more pixs that Brian took last night.
This one with the vapor trail behingd the motor is at about 90.
On the pad, neutral trim, very level angle of attack and driving from ther side
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

    last one

oh yeah, prop shaft is still 1 1/2" bellow the pad

have figured out one of the secrets to driving a Vector on it's pad is to let "it" climb on the pad by itself. If you try to "drive' it on, it will spit you out!
Once up, it requires (will tolerate) near no steering corrections (chop). I was watching my buddies Allison and he was working the wheel while I was holding mine straight most of the time.

    SWEET!!! Keep the pics coming!
My Vector also runs flat, although I definately don't get 90+ with my 1981 225 Merc. You wouldn't believe how many people tell me I need to fly the bow higher, they don't realize it is a Vector with a hook, not a Vking. Also handles moderate chop well and very little steering corrections. Its the other boat wakes I got to watch out for! The more I see of your Vector the more I want to add more power to mine!
Can't wait to hear about you kicking some but at the Rumble, wish I could go to see it!

WOOHOO!!! Looks like airs out nicely!

B.L. was mentioning something about trying a 24V trim system. What are the chances of rigging that ram with an external pump like a Merc? Blasphemous on both sides, I know, but I don't know much about the OMC T/T system and hydraulics is hydraulics right? There's gotta be a way.

    Thumbs up MXZ and Pounder

    MXZ, thanks!
It will fly much higher if I want it to (or let it) but I don't think I need mush more at speed.
Was fighting about a 10 - 15 mph head wind last night and the thing accelrates so fast from a roll that I was afraid of going for a swim!! If I trimed it to run at 60 and then nailed it, the trim would'nt react fast enough to save mne when I got in trouble.
I also noticed when i originally ran this boat with 150 Merc it waas big fun to carry the bow way up in the tree's but far safer with less power.
Bow in the air + drag anyhow.

    Pounder, Thanx too!
Am going to try 24V but the thing is so pathetic that you might see it move but that would be it!!
The trim syatems was one of my projects that got shelved when other issues cropped up.
I will fix, just not sure when. I knew to expect this but had no idea how slow it really was.
The newer era of Johnnies are much faster but not interchangable.
Will probably be one of my fact finding missions at the Rumble.
As far as using Merc parts?? Hell, I'd use Chrysler if it'd work

    Lookin good

Looks sweet bub , i was going to come up to buckeye but the boss had different plans for me , aint there something to speed up the trim on it? Allison Ed took a nasty ride saturday out on paint creek , he was dialing the fuel curve on the 2.5 i built him to run at the rumble....since he's had his ally he has never hit 100mph , well he was at 97.7 and still climbing hard when it came un-hooked spun 180 degrees and bitch slammed him into the floor , he pulled something in his back but last night he was feeling good and ready to try it again. Take care TB
