Boy is this a old thread. Back when I knew how to add photos? If you look around I posted some more of those old Columbiaville Polaroids. Dave

I Kinda liked seeing those old photos again. Man did we have a blast back then. Back in the 70's they ran drag races there three times a year for the whole weekend. Rock,I think that was Baron Cooley, The boat was the little Red Baron. I can't for the life of me remember what speeds those guys were turnin. I do have a couple of programs from back then. I'll see if I can find em and see if they listed any of the speeds or et's. Dave

If I remember correctly , and I doubt that I do, they ran high teens.

Nope, No cracks back there. I just went out to the garage and looked. Was your Viper a factory comp hull like mine? My is very light, Ready to run with my inline six 748 lbs. Just add gas. It's still nice and tight. It's starting to show it's age. But who ain't.

It was a regular 1976 Viper. They sometimes fractured slightly in the transom step roof, when run fast in big chop all the time. Nothing radical damage-wise, but happened. Post a few photo's of your Viper if you have any. Had a nice red flake Viper like yours when young. Wish I could go back in time, and take one more ride, lol. Thx.

The class that I ran was called "comp outboard under 90" It was started because at the time the v bottoms were being paired against the Hydros, and we were basically hot lake boats and didn't have a prayer. In the end we were able to run 89.9---on the 90 breakout, by peddling back at the end,we were capable of 91/93.I don't remember the times but seems it was low 12s.Rock,I think you are correct it seems that high teens,is what the bigs boys were running.and in the tens!!Click image for larger version.

Another was The Toy. Seems he ran low 20s. I was also a sub 90 boat unless they wanted to put on a show for the fans then I had to be careful not to break out. Once at the Pekin race I broke out at 93. That boat wouldn't go 93 dropped out of an airplane. Good old days for sure.
