A couple of old outboard drag photos
I just ran across some old photos from Holloway Reservoir @ Columbiaville Mich. They would be from 1976 maybe 77 I think, That's when I was running back then. The guy in the jump suit has Lil Red Baron on it and the boat's tag is KY 3717 R. The merc in the forground is from Ohio, The trailer tag is 524 E 1. The Chry. is from Michigan the trailer tag is a 76 plate with the # 900163. Anyone out there remember any of these guys.

Dave, That's not the only question I would have about the Chry. It doesn't show up in the scanned photo very well but that engine has a differant mid section I think. In the photo it looks like a parker center section or one of that type. The question I have is with one of the Mercs. The engine in the back round is a six carb engine but it has a differant flywheel than I ever saw on a twister engine. Did merc make two differant lite weight flywheels for the big inlines or did someone make a aftermarket one? Sam, I found some more old photos in a box, I'm going to try and scan as many as I can. Alot of them are old Polaroids and they haven't fared very well. I wise I would have taken more photos back then with a good camera, But we always had a Polaroid with us at the races just in case we needed it.

Hi Dave
Yes I also saw that, but the photo is not clear to put an I.D. on any thing. Nice to see though.

Both of those engines have me stumped. The one on the left looks like more than 6 cyls and I've never seen a Merc with a 2 piece plate on the exhaust chest. The one on the right looks like a 6 carb inline, but the plate looks 2 piece also, unless that's a wire of some kind going across that's foolin' me. The one on the right looks like the mid is long, while the one on the left looks like an awful tall powerhead. I guess the one on the left could be some kind of fabricated plate on a Twister or Twister 1 mid. I'd like to see the original picture or a high resolution scan.

That left motor sure looks like a 10 cyl to me.

The motor on the left does look reeeeealy long like you said 8 or 10 cyl. but you can see 6 plug wires going across the exhaust plate.

RM, I looked at that photos and it doesn't look like a wire. Both engines have the same split in them. I'll see if I can scan the photos again and bring out more detail. I found some more I want to scan anyway. The photos are getting kinda yellow,I'm glad I found them when I did.

Red one
The red one looks like a Mk 75 stock lower, the other looks like a MC1?

Dave we are pretty sure the red one is a Parker. The 75H isn't strong enough and doesn't fit any lower units

I gave up on my old scsi scanner and broke down and pick up a new one. As soon as a figure out how to change the scans to a jpg I will post higher res shots of those engines. I also found some more old drag photos to scan. I'll be back, Sorry it took so long. I just hated to get rid of my big ass old scsi scanner .

I got my scanner at office max for $20, and the so-so software that came with it will save in most formats including jpeg.
I tried to juice it up but could not get that far with the low resolution.Last edited by sho305; 12-05-2003 at 09:35 AM.

Those motors still look like 4 cyl's stacked on top of 6's to me.
