    Pulling inline six mercury outboard powerhead

    Looking for any advise or short cuts on pulling powerhead on 1973 1500 mercury. Thanks

    Not stuck. This is my first inline powerhead that I will pull. Plans are to remove powerhead from long shaft and put on short shaft mid.

    Get a lift ring that screws into the flywheel. Works so much better than straps, chains etc. Unplug the side elec. cable, disconnect throttle & shifter cables , 7/16 nut that connects the shifter arm under the bottom carb. Remove the trim collar and that will expose the 8 stud nuts on the outside. Sometimes you have to lift the power head a little to get the stud nuts all the way off.

    yep pretty simple,sometimes the base gasket acts like its glued down so a crow bar may be needed to pop it loose.
    I may be slow but im ahead of you. *hit's only ankle deep but you went in head first.
