Taking pictures at a funeral wake ???
Not long ago i was at a funeral wake doing what most of us all do. Talking and making my rounds with the family. And as we all do we pass by the deceased saying our last good byes but this one gal in her 30s took a picture of the person in the casket!
Iv never seen this done before.
I personally dont want to look at a picture of the person i have great memories of like that. I want to remember the good times we had doing things. But not in a casket.
Anyone else ever seen this done?
Whats your thoughts?

I agree, but it was quite common in the Victorian age.

I took a picture of my last uncle that was left as he lay in his casket. He was also my favorite uncle and we had a lot of good times together when I was growing up. I aksed his wife if it was okay and she was good with me taking the picture. I told her the main reason was I had never seen him in a suit in my 46 years of hanging around him, she laughed and said me neither, go ahead. I don't see a problem unless the family has a problem with picture taking.

Some families are like that. I was told it's to show the family that can't make it how nice everything was, and others just to put in family picture albums. I've seen full on photographers at funerals/wakes and others that have a cell phone lockup at the door, just depends on the traditions I suppose. As far as I'm concerned, just stick me in the ****in oven then have a huge ass party in my honour when I'm done. I'm not going to care, I'll be dead, and IMO it's also a bit selfish to take up a spot in the ground from now until the end of time with some elaborate steel box.

I had a friend whos son committed suicide after a long battle with heroine. We literately had to stand guard at the casket to keep the scumbags from trying to take thumbs up selfies at the viewing. Had to flash my badge and weapon a few times for the s***heads thats didnt get it. Just horrible.

I personally think its Tasteless. But thats the way I was brought up here in the south. I dont go to funerals unless its a immediate family member. I will attend a Wake but refuse to look at the deceased if the casket is open. I want to remember and vision the person alive and the times we had together. Not a vision of my friend dead laying in a casket.

Here we photograph public services funerals. My grand father was active navy when he past away. I have photos from his funeral. My cousin is in the RCMP and when one passes. She is the photographer of the funeral.

No reason not to take a picture, you only get one chance to get a pic of them before the lid closes.......

It's not so you can see where you're going?
My Dad used to take Pictures of people in their Coffins, and in my teens I shot(pictures) a few . When my mom died, my dad documented it, and had one of his brothers shoot at the Cemetery. I'm glad I have the images of that day. I did my Dads viewing and had a cousin shoot the Cemetery. As a semi pro photographer I will, if asked by the family the deceased, do the same. It is a highly personable thing, but I have no issues about taking the pictures, unless the deceased was mutilated due to accident or foul play.Last edited by jimmbo; 02-02-2018 at 07:35 AM.
