Doel fins work, but the Allison type look so much better.
I agree with above post the plate is definitely too far beyond the cav plate. it is also putting a lot more strain on the plate too.
the shape of the sides are good with the down turn , but I would transform that into the Alison style/design.
here is a few pics of the ali style

I have a theory and a suggestion. The fin creates lift. So even at slower speeds the back of the boat should be riding higher. When you come off plane the fin is still trying to lift the back of the boat. When you reach a speed that the fin no longer keeps the boat higher the boat starts to settle lower into the water. This happens with out a fin too but now the boat is settling in from a greater height because of the fin lift. This displaces more water under the hull and the easiest place for it to go is up behind the boat where there is a void depending on your speed. So you get a larger amount of water coming up the back of the transom.
I had the same problem with a glaspar with a heavy motor and a fin. It happens without the fin too but always if I slowed down too quickly I'd have a big wave crash over the transom into the splash well. So what I did was make two spoilers of sorts for either side of the motor. Made from stainless sheet and bent out at about a 45 degree angle. They stuck up about 5 inches above the transom. They had a side bracket on either side too. This really helped keep a lot of water from crashing in over the splash well. They looked kind of cool too. Sort of a secondary solution but it worked.Last edited by Umassot50; 01-24-2018 at 07:07 PM.

It's the nature of the beast. As the boat settles back into the water the pressure on the plate increases. You have doubled the size of the cavitation plate so it is going to displace more water. Could use a splash guard like some of the west coast drag boats use. Plate looks nice. Good work.
