How do you know when to change a galvanized one ? when it starts bleeding rust? If you slack the cable you can inspect for broken internal strands at the pulleys.I know what your saying but these boats get very little use and the cables are for the most part are lightly loaded. I worked on 737s for 15 yrs at usair the aileron buss cables they are talking about get replaced at D checks 6-7yrs or 24000 flight hours and are constantly moving the entire flight while under tension. The only inspection between is visual/drag a cloth along the cable and see if broken strands grab the cloth or slice your finger open, If you regularly lube a stainless cable it will cut down on the internal chaffing they are talking about.

I am just nervous about ss wire as my yachting experience has shown me it looks good and then fails.
Rule number one, never trust stainless
Rule number two, you can trust steelLast edited by powerabout; 05-12-2019 at 06:06 AM.

I would say run what makes you comfortable, these systems are all home made for the most part.
