    Best 25" 225+'s for $10k.

Shopping for motors for my 25' Checkmate I/O to O/B conversion and although I have a garage full of OMC looper parts/tools/knowledge but looking at everything.

For 10k I'm finding older motors that are perfect and newer ones w/one popped.
I would do either for the right deal.

    Best I've found so far:

'06 250xs Mercs for $11k. Add says they need nothing but don't know hrs so assuming a ton.

'2000 Yammi ox66 250's for $10k, very clean, unknown hrs.

'14 250 e-tecs for $10k, no hrs or history, seller is flipping them.

Be interested in any recommendations from those w/more knowledge than me on the alternate brands.

    PS, no 4 strokes.

    Thx guys.

    Gary

I would go with the Merc but you know me I'm a Merc Guy. Scan a Merc and will know the hours at least on the ECU.

as a guy who loves outboards on a cat or small vee , why on earth would you desire to go from simple bb that easily could push that boat 80 with 550 hp .
What are your expectations with two outboards hanging off bracket other than ugliness on that large boat and complicating life ?

Yep on the hrs. My guess is, seller is trying so slide a high hr motor through w/o anyone knowing.

To lost in nj, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. W/the I/O you have next to no storage in that boat.
Converted to O/B's, the lounge will now store our 2 folding bicycles, inflatable dinghy, beach chairs and table, grill, etc, etc.
We get on the boat Friday and dont get off until Sunday. Usually staying at anchor and dinghying in.

Try that w/an I/O in the same boat.
As far as performance expectations, I expect it to run similar and be way more fun to drive.

PS, if you dont like the project, don't post.

And I dont think this one was ugly.

    They can.

Appears that seller bought them to flip and knows nothing of OB's.
I called him first thing this morning and have heard nothing back.

The Etecs are by far the newest. If the hours are OK it would be my choice

    I'm not rich like you

Id love to have two of those p.heads but still not feeling the "transformers" style.

Your comment on color brings up a good point though.

The older, carb' loopers make a great blank canvas for paint/graphics.

The ox66 era of Yammis are, I think gorgeous as is. But could still probably paint one to plan.

An xs Merc though......, not sure I could paint a pair of them
Maybe just change color of graphics.

Go look at the Etecs with a computer, oil fuel, battery and key switch. They run fine laying on their side or on a crate

    Already sold.
    '14's @ $10k......., if I had been local, I'd have been there.
They were in Jacksonville and almost hired Spanky for an inspection.

Either insurance or he got them from Jacksonville police. I’ve got a few from their auction cheap. Usually high hours and salty.

These have been for sale a while. Take a week and freshen both of them up.you could have two fresh Powerheads and still be under budget. It’s very easy to load a 225HO OR 250hp map.
