So it's time to gut it and see what's left that might be usable. The longer it sets wet.....

Yep you need to get that apart asap, you might lucky and not much rust seeing it was completely full of water? air cant get to the parts and that's speeds up rusting bis time.Like they say if you have a submerged motor leave it submerged until you can tear it down right away.Hope it was not a salty? The housing might be repairable too ?

Not a salt water case. Air is getting in there now. Anyone know of a REPUTABLE gearcase guy within a reasonable distance of Indianapolis?

Any marine repair shop or dealer can tear that down in 15+ minutes the longer you wait the worse it will get.Just have them tear it down and pick it up and see what you got and dry everything and oil the parts and if all is ok take the housing to a good welding shop you might get very lucky to come up with a usable gearcase, bet the who sold it to you says good buy you should have winterized it?

If you cant get it torn down right away at least tape the crack and fill with oil.

Well thats a plus, I guess. Do what Dave said, tape it up and fill it with oil if you cant get it torn down immediately. Gearset is not cheap.

Tape and oil done. I think I'd really like to find a reputable guy who can tear it down for me since I don't have the knowledge and tell me if the internals are salvageable. An empty case is much cheaper than another used one, and more importantly, I will know what is in it and that it is tight and right.

I'm bored, but there is shipping involved. I'm heading to Florida at the end of the month, so I could proberly be arsed to go down through Indiana to drop it off.. I hate Ohio anyway.
