Help, electric fuel pump for evinrude v8

I installed a carter electric fuel pump (P4600) in the location of the factory vacuum pumps. Out of water works fine. However, in the water there is no pressure at all. It seems that the pump is too far from the tank. At this point I am trying to identify an electric fuel pump that can perform in the location of the factory pumps. Any suggestion will be appreciated. I am considering the Holey marine pump 712-801-1 (summit).

why would it make any difference if in the water or out ?

have you looked at the spec to see how much lift the pump has ?
some pumps can only lift upto 24 inch before the pump, after that it will shoot it real high obviously .

lift before the pump is often forgotten about.

I think that Carter pumps are not designed to be as high as it is mounted on my bout.
The boat turns on fine in the whater, however, te pressure is less than 2 PS and in occasion go all the way to 0.

Most... pumps don't suck, they blow. They need a unrestricted intake to perform correctly=as low as possible in relation to the fuel tank. This also means large inside diameter hose and smooth curves inside fittings as does all of the system. All pumps and also regulators arn't equal. This is why Mother Merc supplied fuel pumps with their engines, so I've been told.

I use a carter on my 3 liter omc V6 without a regulator, its mounted anout 2ft from the fuel tank close to level to the bottom of the tank. as stated above the electric pumps are designed to work this way.

Why you got to have it on the motor and not in the boat? a holley red works good to don't need a regulator either.

I used to run a Holley red pump on my V-8 also. It was mounted low in between the tanks on my 21' Eliminator Daytona. It worked just fine without a regulator.

I decided to use a Carter pump based on previous experiences. I use to have one installed on a baker boat the same way, between the two tanks with good results. The boat that I am working has an internal tank there is no way that I can installed Anthe same level of the tank. I will try to do so testing during the week to see if I find something that is affecting the pump performance.

I would still have the pump mounted as close to the tank as possible.

Thanks for your help, today I was able to do some testing. I connected a 3 gallon tank on top pf the engine and the pump push 5 PSI and the engine turn on fine. It seems that I will need to install the factory pumps. I am taking in consideration to install two 225HP fuel pumps. Has anyone tried this? Here is the link for any reference.
