    My Allison bucket list rebuild.

Well kids, it's been a long time. I am still old and stubborn and I still don't know how to drive a V-pad boat . But unfortunately for you and me, I finally found a deal I could swing on a 15 Ally. I fell in love them with many years ago when I bought my old Viper from Raymar and saw his son's (Bridges, Scott) 15 with a Twister.

Anyhow, Thanks to a couple of mid east Fla. raceboat insaniacs that I won't mention unless they comment, I have acquired what I assume will be my last boat project. Needs a transom, and I am guessing it probably needs, like any old boat, everything else too. I wont know until I begin grinding. I am hoping to save the paint on this one, it's in better condition by far than all my previous project boats. I also got what I believe to be a racehorse deal on a restored 150 inline. Never started with a rebuilt restored motor on any project before, so I got a leg up already....Thanks again, you-know-who.

So here are some pics, a question and a promise.

The question, the shoebox joint on this boat is filled with something...I.E. looks great but going to make it hard if not make it necessary to nearly destroy the deck to get it off. Were Allisons made this way?

The promise. For those of you who may remember the thread I posted years ago that brought out all the experts to tell me what a dumbass I am (I already knew...), If I still can't learn to drive it and get this V-pad boat to run to it's potential, if I think it will help, I'll put FOUR trim tabs on the damn thing.

    The pics.

That combo will get you working the wheel. Good to see you back. Put all the tabs on it you want imo. I had a 15 Ally with a 150 XS and it ran good.

Glad you left it for me. I am hoping it just needs the transom but I'm betting there will be more rot. Oh well, it's a hobby...

    Way cool!

Liking the vintage stuff more and more every day.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Its getting there. Just need a few steering things and some other tiny stuff. Im going to put it into high gear this spring but its so close. Not having a garage or anywhere indoor to work on it has been a big hurdle. Seesm like the weather was always rainy and gross every time I was home from last summer so didnt get a whole lot done unfortunately.

Wow, you deserve to ride around in that thing for sure. I will love seeing it get wet. I know how you feel about working outside, I am dying to start on this Ally but we have been cold in Tenn. also. The high dollar guys work in heated garages I am told...LOL!

Hey RJ, Good to hear from you. Glad to see you still have Riverman's old race boat! I often wonder since you owned my old Viper if you figured out why it was such an evil little monster, now that you have one that handles good? The guy you sold it to sold it again and it has been for sale now for several years, converted to center steer and repainted? He told me he had to rebuild it again, not sure why. It seemed to be alright when I sold it to you. That boat has bugged me ever since. I guess the fact that it is still for sale tells me something is still wrong? Anyway, I'll be doing a transom and whatever else is needed on the Ally, once it warms up a little...almost like Minnesota around here right now!

Well I learned something new today. I didnt know RJ was the one that bought your Viper from you. I thought someone else did. Im assuming the guy that bought it from RJ cause I talked to him a few times but he never said who he got it from. Assuming RJ didnt have it that long. Also, they guy that had it after RJ didnt take all that good care of it what so ever. He was trying to sell it at one time and sent me some pics and it looks like someone hacked and half assed a bunch of stuff on it.

Yeah Hip, apparently the owner after RJ lost interest and left it uncovered and finally sold it to the guy who has it now. I think he was the one that put in the really thick transom and the giant exposed transom knees and the wooden seat. He made it center steer and painted the deck a light yellow. Not sure why he did the paint but I think he brushed it. That was Dupont Imron I put on it and should have lasted a LONG time. I know it did on the tire of my van when I ran over a drop cloth with it on there. I asked him for a price on just the boat and he quoted me way more than I sold the entire rig to RJ for.
OK, I got down off the porch and ran with the big dogs....kinda sore now....think I'll just lay here in the flowerbed for a while...
